Re: PS3 update problems during peak times :(

This evening at 18:10 I downloaded a 15Mb file from the PlayStation Store. The download took just under 8 minutes so that around 30kbps.

Re: PS3 update problems during peak times :(

Damn, the 100kb update for Burnout was promising (even though that took at least 1 min)
Than BAM, hit with a 250MB download in game, which you cant download in background. Thats my PS3 on until the morning - bye bye ozone layer!
1. PS3  -  £300
2. Burnout Paradise - £30
3. Broadband - £20 p/m
4. Downloading a game update that costs you £7.99 and not being able to do anything with it 'COZ ITS SNOWING OUTISDE'
PRICELESS!  Cheesy

Re: PS3 update problems during peak times :(

I've just downloaded the same 15Mb file from the PlayStation Store that I downloaded on Tuesday.
On Tuesday it took 8 minutes = 30 kbps
Tonight it took 2 minutes 20 seconds = 107 kbps

Re: PS3 update problems during peak times :(

adiewoo, how do you manage to get such high download speeds before midnight?
According to http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/products/archive/bb_premier1.shtml and assuming that you are on Premier 1 (as per your signature), you should be limited to 1Mb like me (BBYW Option 2).

Bob, got no idea might have been 3 minutes though but was certainly been quicker than the last few weeks.  Smiley

Yep, definitely a big improvement.
That's why I rate PlusNet so highly. We highlight an issue, they listen, they sort it out.

Re: PS3 update problems during peak times :(

Hi,
We've added some more bandwidth and been doing some tweaking to try and get things working better. The extra traffic from the weather means we'll stay in high demand mode on the network and service status for a few more days at least. There's spare capacity over on pcl-ag3 at the moment (quite a lot actually) so if you want to try and hop over to that gateway it should help us a to get the network balanced a little quicker.
Regarding the speed before midnight the rate limits we have in place can actually be applied on a bit more of an intelligent basis so if there is spare capacity on the network then some of them can be higher. The rate limit profiling is done per product and per protocol so the rate limit on BBYW2 for HTTP Downloads  is independant of the one for Premier for HTTP Downloads for example. There are also different numbers of customers on each product, there are more BBYW 2 customers than Premier or BBYW 3 for example. So in a given hour there may be spare capacity to increase the rate limit on say Premier, but after doing that there isn't enough to increase BBYW 2 as well. Or it may be possible to do both, it all depends on what traffic is on the network.
