PS3 stability

Just wondered if anyone knows ways to get the best from the network on the PS3.  Opened up a multitude of ports on the router.  Getting some crazy speeds right now...

Bearing in mind i can only get 6Mb/s on my laptop  Huh

Re: PS3 stability

probably the reason your getting that high on the ps3 but only 6 on laptop is cos you have port forwarded most of them to your ps3 and so it would give it priority over the laptop. hope this helps  Grin

Re: PS3 stability

If you're running that test from your PS3 it wont be accurate.

Re: PS3 stability

Put your ps3 in the routers DMZ and use a cable rather than wireless.

Re: PS3 stability

Yes it was running from PS3, had some serious lagging recently and wanted to check the speed.  Modern Warfare 2 was unplayable yesterday.
It is wired at the moment.
Are there any accurate speed testers that work on the PS3 that you know of?

Re: PS3 stability

Well if all you're after is speed and not ping you can use the network connection test in the XMB, the last two tests display your upload and download speed.
I don't know a way to get an accurate ping test other than when you're playing online and seeing how many bars you have  Undecided

Re: PS3 stability

I have never tried wireshark myself.
I get 1.0Mb/s on the XMB test.  Awful when i get around 6Mb/s on the computer.  Even get 4Mb/s on Wifi on my phone.  WIll just have to accept the PSN is rubbish.

Re: PS3 stability

Might have to get someone to wireshark the speed test on the XMB to see how it's being prioritised unless you tried that test at a particularly busy time and psn was a bit pants.

Re: PS3 stability

You say MW2 was unplayable, in what way - lag?
I have played it a fair bit and I know Euge has too and I haven't had any issues.

Re: PS3 stability

I have been having some cronic lag issues on mw2 in the last couple of weeks , even when i'm host.  My ping varies between 26 and 35 on test sites and my dl is around 3mb and ul is .70mb.  Any ideas?

Re: PS3 stability

Dont know why it would be so slow.  The whole PSN is virtually unusable for me at the moment.. Constant disconnection from the Network making online gaming impossible.  Laptop seems fine for the most part.
Wondering if anyone else has had problems...

Re: PS3 stability

Have you got the Thomson TG585 v7 like me, Plusnet supply these, I have problems with serious lag and getting knocked off line on PS3, and even the Internet sometimes does not load up on PC, I have a friend with same router who is also having problems.
I also have a Netgear DG834GT and that works flawless.

No I am using a D-Link G624T router.  Has been fine for years and now nothing but trouble.
