PS3 YLOD!

Has anyone had their PS3 fixed after the dreaded YLOD (yellow light of death!)
Mine died at the weekend and i am sending it away today, not to Sony though!

It doesn't need a good name because it doesn't happen very often, certainly not the 33% failure rate of the X-DOORSTOP

Thats the DHL man away with it. Hope its ok, not only has it got a 250GB Hard Drive and Fifa 09 in it. I have about 20 games or so purchased from the PSN store!!!

At least you can always re-download your games from PSN store, if the worst does happen.
Hope it's all OK for you though. At least you won't be distracted from your wedding

I will be able to re-download some of it, lots of it i gave away to friends too though!!

How much is it costing m8, i heard all you need is a heat gun! i know sony charge £145 , theres another option but it means waiting a while though and thats Continuos Play £5 / month
ps , how old is yours , is it 60 gb ?

Ya, its a 60GB model. Sony wanted £150 for a refurbished model but i want to kepp my HDD and Games (Fifa is inside too!)
Console Wizard say they fix the YLOS all the time and it would be £103 (inc delivery to and from their premises). Its with SKP Repair in Dundee at the moment, they are looking at it right now!!!!

Did the fan become noisy a few weeks before it died , or is that a myth ?
Hope you get it sorted soon mate!  These 60gb models seem to be dropping like norwich at the moment.

you can take the hard drive out of the ps3 cant you. iam sure i saw on the gadget show they showed you how to upgrade the hard disk

Yeah there are just a couple of screws to remove. But you need a working machine to put the os back on...

ITFCdan - my fan has always been a little noisier than my friends 40 & 80GB models!
Yeah i replaced the HDD with a 250GB one, its real easy.
Still no word from the repair men, must have checked my email 50 times yesterday - kacking my pants!

When you get it back up and running invite to another game of FIFA 09 m8. (under mr keane's management lol)
