PC gaming monitors - any recommendations?

Hey all,

I am looking to replace my ancient 22" 4:3 Samsung monitor as I have had it for 12 years now and it's time for an upgrade. I have recently noticed that its actually a terrible screen for gaming and is not at all responsive. Can anyone recommend a monitor in the £200 - £300 range? Not bothered with 4K but HD would be nice. Also a low response time and high refresh rate (hoping for 144hz). Looking forward to playing Elite in full HD widescreeen without any ghosting happening. These are the ones I have found that look like they would fit the bill but I just have no idea what to go for:

Asus VG248QE 24-inch 3D LED Monitor - Black (1920x1080, 80000000:1, 144 Hz, 1ms, DVI Display Port, H...

BenQ XL2430T LED 24 inch Gaming Monitor (144 Hz, 16:9, 1920 x 1080, 1000:1, 12M:1, DVI/HDMI 1.4 x 2/...

Cheers!

Re: PC gaming monitors - any recommendations?

I bought this a few months ago and would recommend it, the initial setup can take some time getting the brightness/digital vibrance set but after that it's been fantastic : https://www.overclockers.co.uk/acer-predator-gn246hlbbid-24-1920x1080-tn-144hz-1ms-gaming-widescreen...

I bought one of these last year and I am delighted with it http://www.iiyama.com/gb_en/products/prolite-xub2790hs-1/

Note that you really should have a full IPS screen

Re: PC gaming monitors - any recommendations?

Those are both nice looking monitors and the specs look on point @Chris for what I need (defo want 144 hz). This going to take a bit of time to decide as its a lot of money to put down (according to the wife).

Re: PC gaming monitors - any recommendations?

I do like the look of the Asus screens.

I ended up putting up a bit more cash and settled on an Asus MG248Q 24-Inch Widescreen TN LED Full HD Monitor (1920 x 1080, 1 ms, DP, HDMI, DVI-D, 144 MHz). I found this article quite helpful in my decision.

Should be arriving sometime next week!

For what its worth Amazon are having a promotion on Asus monitors that give you coupon for a free copy of Doom.

Re: PC gaming monitors - any recommendations?

I saw that but I already have DOOM. Got it on the day of release and I have to say that its probably one of the best single player experiences I have had in recent years. I might have to gift the code to one of my brothers or mates at the next LAN party I go to.

Re: PC gaming monitors - any recommendations?

I know what you me @St3, it has taken me a few months to convince my wife that I need a new screen.

Now that I got my new screen... wow... just... wow... games feel completely different and Elite on 3 screens looks amazing!

Re: PC gaming monitors - any recommendations?

Also here is a video I made showing the difference between my old screen (16ms response time) vs my new screen (1ms response time). Captured using my iPhone 'slow-mo' video with high fps so you can see the difference.. I was shocked at how much difference there is.

Re: PC gaming monitors - any recommendations?

I would (strongly) recommend not getting a 1080 monitor, get a 2560x1440 (I use a Benq GW2765), the reason is simple, a screenshot here of ED in 1080 on the Benq...

There is a huge difference between 1080 and 1440, you can pick up one used for under £300.  There is also AOC 27inch 1ms 60-75Hz for £201, it's a TN panel which has it's pro/cons and isn't a 144hz.  I play Elite on Ultra 1440 borderless and have no frame rate issues (970GTX)
