Re: Opening ports?

Hi KaotiK,
You will indeed need to assign an IP address to the PC you're playing games on so that you can point the required ports back to an address on your internal network. It should be explained on portforward website that ghos7em1 has pointed you to.
As for the router, this should be fine for your connection although it could be a little overkill for the ADSL Max connection you receive however the Gigabit LAN and Wireless N would help you with transferring data between your home devices.

Re: Opening ports?

Hi KaotiK,
Could you confirm the firmware version of the Plusnet router you're using (if you haven't purchased something we already)? There is an alternate setting that can be used however this only appears in the later versions of the firmware.
Also, there is a trick to adding the PC into the DMZ which will open up all traffic to a from the PC, this could fix the issue however it can open the PC up to some traffic that would normally be synonymous with security issues. I tend to only do this myself if I need to host a server and can't be bothered with adding additional ports for it. If you do look at this option I would suggest only enabling the DMZ when you play BF4.

Re: Opening ports?

Afternoon all,
@KaotiK - Good work on getting the router updated, I was going to see if we could do this remotely for you but you managed it without any help at all  Cool
@ghos7em1 - You're on the money there! That was exactly the next thing I was going to suggest we try.

Re: Opening ports?

Hi KaotiK,
This should just open and cone the ports required for gaming traffic on the most common ports so you shouldn't have any need to worry about anything being opened that shouldn't be.
