Hello guys
After two years of abusive speeds from tiscali I have finally moved. I live in a village, but my village exchange is only 300metres away, however I never got more than 1meg with tiscali unless it was stupid times in the morning.... Streaming media on iplayer and the likes was just a dream....
Now look!
Just under 6mbits down. The speed is fantastic... I play all sorts of games but mainly (at the moment) Guild Wars and Counter Strike(yes I haven't grown up just yet) by the way
Now on to some questions I had....
When Tiscali was ok I had pings of 30-50 in Counter Strike, a bit of choke/loss and every 5mins a ping spike to about 120 for about 5seconds. When Tiscali was bad in the evenings, it was unplayable. Same in Guild Wars although the good ping was more 150. The bad ping more 2000.
On Plus net Pro!! my connection is far more stable, with a ping of 100~ in Guild Wars with the occasional spike. However in Counter Strike it is still hovering around the 30-50 mark, however with no choke/loss and the occasional spike, but only up to 80~ I was hoping for a little more of a lower ping, maybe I am just expecting to much. Would turning Interleaving off make any difference? What are the Pros and Cons? If I look at my packets on wireshark, is it just the incoming packets I have to look at? I still have to wait 10days for the connection to stop dicking about.
Here are some stats from my router:- http://www.reactivated.net/~stinga/pics/router.jpg
I do use a an old 10meter telephone extension cable (/flame) I know these are bad, but I have not come across "a special one that won't degrade signal" - surely some must exist? I do however plug directly into my master socket (Tiscali made me take the face plate off so many times that I just left it off)
Sorry for all the questions, its like having a new toy or something.
Funny that the most annoying thing I found with Tiscali, is when I _needed_ to connect to work on VPN urgently, it would always go so slow, it was quicker to drive back into work!

You need to request that interleaving is turned off - this will drop your ping times significantly

welcome to PN an the forum
o.k so a bit more info on interleaving here http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/interleaving.htm
It normaly takes 24hours(weekends unsure about) from PN picking up your ticket an the same to turn on if it did cause instabilty on your line the switch on by BTw should happen at 2am and your line will resync onits own when this happens
Below is what i get on fastpath on my long 50db atten line. Been running fastpath donkeys now an the only thing i have to do because iam on long rubish length of string is to not puch my sync rate to its max i tend knock it down by 500kbps-1mb to set bitloading to night time levels resulting in less errored seconds ect as your living nxt to the exchange you wouldnt have to do this an infact will more likely enable you sync an extra 500kbps or so
Ping statistics for 212.58.254.252: bbc.co.uk
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss)
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 16ms, Maximum = 17ms, Average = 16ms
yep on wireshark its only the incoming packets that would of been taged by PN's network as outgoing hasnt been over PN's network yet
to raise a ticket to request interleaving to be turned off use this link https://portal.plus.net/wizard/index.html?Ea82ChdSAqqwtYJcjZV%2Fjl8BeHfnW7ogQYILXVCBFsnFyRVJeEpVZrrG... or go to the help asstiant on the member centre an then broadband connection/ dsl max interleaving obviously need to logged into the member site to this
as for the 10days training if interleaving did cause sync problems on your line the lowest sync rate would be taken as your fault theshold rate by BTw and they are unlikely to do anything about low sync problems in the future if its not below your fault theshold.
idealy as you most likely all ready know is to connect your router on the shortest possable length of cable to the master as possable an use cat5 to the pc (yeah not the easiest cable to route an hide)
sure some knowledgable person will surrgest to you which qauilty cable is best to use for this run of extension your using at the mo to the router

I would have a look at a combo of something like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Hi-Speed-Internet-Modem-RJ11M-M/dp/B000FO6I4I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=el... if it's long enough in conjunction with a filtered face plate such as http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopDetail.asp?ProductID=7648

Welcome StingA
Nothing wrong with Counter Strike. A lot of staff and customers play it on Steam. I know I do

Ordered - I didn't realise that they fitted over the master, they always look to wide. Should had really looked into this a long while ago!
Third day on plusnet now, even watched the tennis highlights on Iplayer without it having to pause the action and wait for more buffer at all!..!

There is a problem with some iplayer traffic at the moment but as you can see from this thread not every one is effected by it and PN are working hard on sorting it.
Again not every one seems to be effected by the awol traffic mangment and you seem to be one of the lucky ones
