I have a feeling its my upload speed which is only 250 or so .... I used to get 500-600 with sky
can PN increase my upload speed for gaming .... not that bothered about browsing
is that possible ?

If your exchange is 21CN enabled you should be on ADSL2 and then you can ask for the upstream to be uncapped with no charge (should give you up to 1000kbps depending on your distance from the exchange)
Regarding gaming - have you asked for interleaving to be turned off

Please excuse my ignorance, would turning 'interleaving'  off improve my gaming experience too?
Are there any disadvantages to turning it off?

Hi,
If your line runs at a lower speed and there's errors then interleaving will definitely improve the gaming and lower ping times. If it runs well and at a decent speed though you'll probably get slightly lower pings without it.
If you post some router stats we'll be able to advise better

And give you a bit better speed as well - I assume that your exchange isn't 21CN enabled otherwise you should be on ADSL2+ with much higher speeds

You only Need about 15kB/s up and down for a FPS game.  It how FPS's are hosted now thats the issue.  Game publishers nolonger host that many if any dedicated servers, they offload that and use console tactics and expect people to host on their own connections.  That leads to who ever that hosts has a lan ping of 15ms maximum in game when you will have much higher, that is why it is easy for some to get higher kill ratios.
So play on dedicated servers if the game allows and ignore self hosted servers.
