Latency Problems

When I check pingtest.net the results are usually very good with low ping, jitter and no packet loss (most of the time) but further tests show high pings and packet loss through hops to plus.net before reaching the final server.
It will be a lot easier to just show the results below...
This first image shows a tracert to the ip for a game server I regularly play on and shows a star at second hop, which I believe is packet loss?
This is a test using winMTR to continuously ping to the server and at the 3 plus.net hops the worst ping times are very high. Although no packet loss is shown in this test, I have repeated it a few times and there has been some.
Finally I tested wireshark while I connected to the server and as you can see the differentiated services field shows 0x00
It seems weird that pingtest is fine 99% of the time even when testing servers to other european countries but every server I join in ut2004 has packet loss. Maybe It's the server? But the results above suggest a problem with plus.net
Here is the stats from my router.
DSL Downstream Rate: 12641 Kbps
Down up
DSL Noise Margin: 4.1 dB 27.0 dB
DSL Attenuation: 30.5 dB 15.6 dB
If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You'll see that a 0x00 is bad. as thats bronze, gaming should be higher up the priority then that.
Does the server use a non-standard port? this could be the issue.
The "packet loss" you talk of is nothing to worry about, if you see no responses by PN kit - or its very slow, this is pretty normal.
Cisco kit (for example) puts responding to pings very low priority, and transferring data as very high.. So that people pinging it doesnt affect its performance (pretty clever really ::))
Thats why you sometimes see spikes on the tracert. as long as your not getting loss to the destination - you should be good

Even in other games like call of duty I lag out for a second every 5 mins or so.
Is there a way to get the priority set higher?

Sorry to be very un-descriptive, but that thread is at the top of THIS forum, and explains how to sort out issues like this
*Snip* from the PN Customer Support Traffic Shaping Pages...
Quote Some applications not using the standard port may not be identified correctly by our system, as we use DPI to identify applications on the network. These applications may be classified as 'other' traffic in which case a lower priority may apply.
Another option is to add the "PRO" addon, which will prevent anything being 'shaped' (dependant on your product its a £5 addon).
However, as you say its happening in COD, i'd say something is awry here..
Can you check what it says next to "VP Capacity" when you look up your exchange Here - Exchange status
What Router do you have? are you going in over wireless? there are many things which could add latency, please elaborate
Regards
edit: fixed bbcode cockup.

I do already have the 'pro' addon.
I'm connected to a Linksys WAG160N, through ethernet cable.
VP Capacity is showing green

The spikey latency is a strangeone, it could be anything really, including but not limited too:
- Router having a funky moment
- bad NIC drivers
- Service issue
- Machine struggling to keep up
- Background scans (AV/ Windows Defender/ Windows Update)
- Heavy I/O Operations (Backup program/AV again)
If you log into the router mate, do you have a high amount of FRC / CRC Errors (CRC are bad) it could genuinely be packet loss-based on interference- however with your linestats this looks *very* unlikely.
If you can run UT in a window, you can use wireshark to snap *just* the game connecting to the server / gaming traffic.
Should help you identify that its being picked up correctly (worth noting the odd packet may get 0x00 to begin with until it fits the profile on the management system)
Also, has the router been rebooted recently? has it dropped out during any maintenance periods? (If so, the default profile will be applied - which AFAIK is just basic priority on web browsing and nothing more - which would explain the 0x00 behaviour)
Regards

I doubt any of those things could be a problem as before I was with plusnet I have never had the same problem.
Also I don't see any errors in the router logs.
I can't remember the last time the router was rebooted. It did drop out about a week ago but connected again straight away so don't know if that would affect anything?
Thanks for your help
Regards

The add-on is active and your account is showing the correct service offer. Are you still seeing the same issues?

I'm still getting packet loss to servers across Europe and UK which I've never experienced with other ISP's while connected via ethernet.

that said now your on the pro profile you shouldnt see anything coming into your lan with less than 0x80 gold prioity

can you run a pathping when your seeing the packet loss to the Europe servers, should show you which hop is dropping the packets marked for the final hop, which it is suppose to give priotiy to as tarcerts just ping each hop direct and most give those low prioity as its job is to route not respond
