Is minecraft prioritized correctly?

I'm currently hosting a server for me, a few friends and family and i am hoping to rule out server issues i'm experiencing.

No need.
It should be working fine as per my comments in the thread here.
If you've any reason to doubt that then a Wireshark capture would be the way to go though.

That fix presumably relates to people playing minecraft on a server elsewhere. Will it also apply to someone hosting a server?
I think you are going to have to do the wireshark capture to check the priority on the incoming server requests.
