I understand that both users problems were resolved by moving to a fixed IP, one was originally on an Arin IP and one was not.
Is it still the case that users with fixed IPs are put back on to the original WBMC shared network? If so that points firmly to it being an issue with your new WBMC dedicated network and that Arin issues are a total red herring!

@jelv Not disagreeing that there could be something there, but there actually isn't that much difference between "Old" and "New" networks anymore that could account for this. We're bearing that in mind though.

Do you know if there is any geolocation based assignment of VoIP infrastructure going on here?
No there isn't. Our networking model is very simple. We ping all of our game servers and try to assign a game server that returns the lowest ping for the user. The in game screenshot was showing he had about 30 ping which is pretty low so it looks like that worked well.
Then all of our game data and all of our voip data travels on the same UDP packets which is connected directly to the server to help decrease latency. Unfortunately, according to the in game screen shots its showing the user as having between 30-40% packet loss. At that high of a packet loss on our UDP packets the VOIP will become crackly.

@rad_davidn I guess that means the game can handle lost packets a lot better than the VoIP service on top?

Yah, we do some dead reckoning to make it seem smooth for the player movement (e.g. extrapolate the players position, etc..)
Our game is a sports game so with high packet loss they may miss some blocks, punches, catches and mis predicted throws. It will effect the game a lot but it will be more subtle (the user may blame it on their own skill). However, the VOIP packets being dropped are really noticeable to the end user (it's like a barometer to how bad your connection is).

I am happy to try, of course. Please though, if it doesn't work, put me back on the static IP! I sadly spend a long time in the game and would be super depressed if i suddenly couldn't talk to my friends again.....it's like a second life...in zero G...with frizbees.

Absolutely. I'll be happy to re-add it immediately or at least as quick as humanely possible.
I'll be in from 10 to 6:30 over the weekend, so feel free to let me know if there are any issues at all after it's removed.

Well, i have just tried it and.................it seems to be working! Nice one. I'm pleased you carried on looking into it. I assumed that once a workaround had been found you'd moved on. What did you do?
