Heads up Steam users

Portal is free for download until the 24th May and once registered you keep it for ever.
Just downloading at a magnificent 69 bytes per second (not sure if that is Plusnet or Valve limiting it)
Update - it must have been Valve as it is now coming down at full speed

Re: Heads up Steam users

Possibly something to do with http://store.steampowered.com/news/3808/ happening at the same time?

Re: Heads up Steam users

Portal 2 should be out very soon - which might be why Valve are giving Portal away now to ramp up interest in the sequel. If Portal 2 is anywhere near as good as Portal then I'll definitely be getting it.

Watch the Zero Punctuation review (NSFW unless you have headphones, and even then it's still a bit iffy - take care).
He likes it.
He can't find anything bad to say about it.
If you know Zero Punctuation at all, you'll realise that's pretty much a unique situation.

Re: Heads up Steam users

Portal is absolutely awesome.
Once you've finished the game itself, go and investigate both http://portalmaps.wecreatestuff.com/ and http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2008/10/portal-prelude/ - should extend your gameplay by several hours (and possibly short circuit your brain!)

Re: Heads up Steam users

It will be good if steam works on linux, i believe thats why a lot of gamers are stuck with windows at the moment.

Re: Heads up Steam users

It's going to be interesting. I run Steam under Wine at the moment and a lot of games work surprisingly well. I can foresee a need to run Steam/Wine alongside native Steam to support those games that won't run natively.
