Gaming traffic to Ubisoft.com in Canada once a again foobarred

during last month a noticed that  traffic to the ubisoft server farm that my game always connects to was taking an odd route, which is nothing new with AS6453.net gotta be the best peering out there not, of course at first apart from there being an extra 18ms latency added to what it used to be , and incidentaly what it was briefly when plusnet was routing some traffic over Tinet 90-95ms back in November 14iirc  as it should be, not the 108-115ms that is wildly fluctuating all the time up as high as 142ms  currently it is over 120ms

Re: Gaming traffic to Ubisoft.com in Canada once a again foobarred

That is holiday traffic. Christmas/Newyear and first 2 weeks of the year there is usually abnormal load.  That and the Newyork area is being hit with extreme cold currently, -15C on some days, just think what that kind of weather would do to our network.

Re: Gaming traffic to Ubisoft.com in Canada once a again foobarred

Well i have 2 tbb ping monitors set up one pinging tinet and the other AS6453.net last hops before ubisoft and there are no issues with icreased latency on tinet network, infact looking back over the holiday xmas new year  it looks like the AS6453.net link was overloaded big latency hump with packetloss where as the tinet had no or a minor latency hump  at those same times, AS6453.net is poorly managed there is no excuses for that, obviously it's also the cheaper peering option
As for the weather they and most of their infrastructure are better able to cope with it than we are, in particular in Canada where ubisoft is located

ouch that looks painful. Is there no other way we can avoid this route?

Yes, Ubisoft should have gaming servers in Europe.

Yes by the isp using the other available peering as other isp's use,TINET who don't have these same issues as AS6453.net  who's base latency increases to a lot higher than the 120ms shown, coupled with up to 6% packet loss at the last hop, which is visible across their hope from the newyork hop, because it becomes saturated with traffic at those times, incidental back when i became a plusnet customer the latency was a acceptable 89-90ms for 6-8mths then it increased ,plusnet do also use Tinet but i've only seen 1 gateway using this peering  so far, they seem to prefare using the most congested out of the 2 choices they have available to them why i don't know, but cost may have something to do with it

As has been explained to you (quite a few times), Plusnet have little or no control on the direction traffic takes once it leaves their network. The routing to Ubisoft is announced by Ubisoft, not Plusnet.
Looking at the BGP Peers for Plusnet, they do not use Tinet and even if Plusnet did use Tinet, there are no guarantees that traffic to Ubisoft could be forced over Tinet.
The issue is that Ubisoft have decided to have their data centre in a random location rather than set up regional presences around the globe.

Re: Gaming traffic to Ubisoft.com in Canada once a again foobarred

If that was the case then all isp's would be the same, fact is they ain't so that theory doesn't add up tinet is the other peering used by ubisoft, isp's have the choice of using either  or both , and the ones that i have spoken with unsurprisingly use tinet and not AS6453.net  as for what plusnet's BGP report, it must be wrong out dated, as only the other night whilst gateway hopping in a bid to find a less congested endpoint i stumbled on 1 gateway where peering to ubisoft was going via tinet , so what are you saying that i imagined this i deliberately lied, what? IMO you for some reason or other appear to be going out of your way to try and discredit what i have found why is this ?

Re: Gaming traffic to Ubisoft.com in Canada once a again foobarred

It's not a theory, it's a fact and one that's been given to you by both Plusnet and non-Plusnet network admins. Plusnet have no choice over how traffic is routed to Ubisoft.

Re: Gaming traffic to Ubisoft.com in Canada once a again foobarred

http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,120077.192.html still saying that they don't use tinet ? Oh and if they don't have a choice then that's because of the BT group holding the purse strings, an or the fact that plusnet use a middle man Level3 in this case who decides on the routing, because other ISP's aren't tied to AS6453.net some  infact peer direct with Tinet So if Level3 aren't accommodating or bothers about the QOS levels via who they peer with  then perhaps plusnet /BT needs to invest some more on better peering to some destinations
As for ubisoft basing their server farms in one place Montreal canada  having the 1 server farm and selling their games globally  not being sufficient  has been a concern since they started selling online games, yes they should have at least 3 server farms 1 in europe,1 in the usa and another in Asia  and would be even better if they where all interlinked but that would cost them money, and like the peering  the corporations involved don't care about end user experience only about profits

Re: Gaming traffic to Ubisoft.com in Canada once a again foobarred

What I have said is perfectly correct: Plusnet do not use Tinet: their main two peers are Level3 and BTnet.
If Ubisoft want traffic from Level3 via Tinet, they make that call - not Plusnet.
Ubisoft want traffic from Level3 to come via AS6453.net. This is their decision and it is not one that Plusnet can influence.

Re: Gaming traffic to Ubisoft.com in Canada once a again foobarred

They could /can if the choose to not use level 3 to peer to ubisoft, they as other isp's do, could peer directly with tinet if they or BT  wished to do so

Re: Gaming traffic to Ubisoft.com in Canada once a again foobarred

So you want them to set up a complete new peering arrangement with Tinet, just for you to be able to save 10ms on routing to Ubisoft?!
