Gaming on a PC using what controls.

I normally do my excuse for gaming on a console but have recently been playing about with BattleField Play4Free and am rapidly running out of fingers.
Do people normally use the keyboard and mouse or do they purchase a gaming pad or is there some other secret device.
I haven't played PC FPS games for years.

Only time I don't use keyboard and mouse with pc gaming, is with a driving or flight sim.  With Driver San Francisco coming soon possibly need to look into a new wheel for it, so its going to be an expensive game if I buy it.

i have a razer arctosa KB, http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/pd/productID.169415000/categoryId.35156900 ; standard layout but faster key responce times, its possible to reasign keystrokes and create macro,s but i dont bother .

Keyboard and mouse. The thumb bottons on my mouse plays a large part in all my games like ie the game i play the most 'bc2' one for jump and the other to reload. i have the old but still perfect logitech G5 oh i use the space bar to crouch.

I've got one of these on the way which hopefully should help my K/D ratio a little
I looked at the updated model but couldn't see differences justifying a £11 increase in expenditure.

The MX518 is a decent mouse and thankfully logitech didn't stop making it cause of newer so called improved versions which happily didn't take on, I usually buy a couple when there on sale to replace my old ones.  Currently on my third set of 2, most have lasted 3-4 years with constant use.

yup the mx518 s a brilliant mouse i have had several myself  so you cant go wrong with that one strat 
wacky17 i also play BC2 a lot  i have my thumb buttons for crouch/ stab !  & am well on my way to my 3rd 50rank  see if i can get it before BF3 arrives

@ strat. You wont regret it,
@ rongtw. The middle mouse (scroll) button is far more easier to use for knife kills. I think in bf3 you will have to select the knife like you did in bf2 and bf2142 anyway thats what you had to do in the alpha.

Insight into some killer configurations would also be welcome as I tie myself in knots with WASD along with Shift and Ctrl
...or would that be betraying trade secrets

wacky17 , problem with the alpha was you were unable to reasign the controlls , lets hope we can in the beta

Personally for me (Black Ops) it's:
wasd for movement
q and e to lean left and right (handy for peering round corners and ducking back quickly if you miss)
shift to run
ctrl for prone (lying down - more useful than you think, if you come face to face with someone try dropping instantly)
c to crouch
space to jump
4 for special grenades (also MB5 (second thumb button on mouse), but I always end up with a claw grip on the mouse so it's a bit out of the way)
scroll to select weapon
middle click for grenade
MB4 (first thumb button on mouse - the one that you use to go back a page in your browser) for stab
right click for aim down sight
left click to fire
Think that's about it, but it's different for everyone. I know one lad here who uses his right button for moving forward, not my cup of tea at all but hey whatever floats your boat. Have a mess about and see what you like

nice to see some PN staff are Gamers  helps to understand our problems.
be nice to have a thread to see the most played game on PN, lool  PC of course consoles are for kiddies 
i play any battlefied game    BC2 mostly , I play with friends in a clan , and chat using TS3
