Gaming latency problem

Hello plusnet support,
I and a clan mate are both Plusnet customers, we both play on the same Project reality (bf2 mod) server, when we play alone on the server our latency is fine, but when we both are on the same server one of us will have extremely high latency which is unplayable, the other will be unaffected.
It is only this server we have a problem with.
I will get my clan mate to post here with his details.
Server IP:  217.146.93.88:16767 UK Warfare Reality Mixed 0.917  (Note non standard server port for Project reality)

Today it was my turn to lag out so I did a traceroute to get the ball rolling.

Re: Gaming latency problem

Well the problem is still ongoing, again tonight can't play on the same server together. I'll raise a support ticket as no one has bothered to reply here.

Re: Gaming latency problem

I was getting the same problem at the same time on the same server.
For me it is only the server 217.146.93.88 that I have the problem with. Have tried other PR servers around Europe without pings over 120.

Re: Gaming latency problem

as its hop 2 (PN gateway), that latency is coming from either high error rates on a fastpath line ect, 21cn connegstion at your exchange or PN have let a gateway pipe run hot
300 pings on this interleved PO connection for a compare

Re: Gaming latency problem

Well we can both play fine up until around 8pm (i presume the gateways changes?) and then we both get lag and can't play. Here is the today's trace routes.

Re: Gaming latency problem

wouldnt worrie about those last traceroute's. as you can see in my pin plotter graph the hops inbetween the gateway and final hop are very sketchy. but thats pretty normal as those hops are setup to route traffic through and replying to icmp pings will be lower down in there prioity.
if you get say a ping increase at say hop 4 and then hop 5,6,7 and the last hop all increase on the ping at hop 4 then yes hop 4 would be the problem. Thats why your first traceroute you posted points to an issue with line exchange or gateway.
Is your friend on the same exchange?

Re: Gaming latency problem

I was the other person that Tompug mentioned. I am not on the same Exchange. I am in London TomPug is up North somewhere.
We were on the same server at the same time and we both had the problem.

Re: Gaming latency problem

that takes the vlan capicty at your exchanges out the firing line and i would be surrpised if you are both connected to the same gateway every time youve seen this issue.
all i can add is to keep capturing those ping's, i would whack ping plotter on and keep it running even why your playing the game. then make a note of what time the lag started in the game and tie that up to any increases on ping plotter at the same time.

Re: Gaming latency problem

Another observation to add is the latency issues always start at 8pm onward.
Ping plotter of tonight's latency attached as recommended.
I've had about enough, I don't want to spend my evenings using wireshark and ping plotter to identifying problems that PN should sort out.

Re: Gaming latency problem

i am seeing a simular problem but on xboxlive. I also so have a friend on plusnet and everything is fine when we play with other people but when we try play a game together it gets so laggy its unplayable. thats if we can even connect to each other and its not a nat problem. And just over all the latency as got alot worse. its just problem after problem with plusnet.

Re: Gaming latency problem

Well it's been 3 weeks since I had a reply to my support ticket, a winning formula for retaining customers. My piss is sufficiently boiled, I'm done. -1 customer.

Re: Gaming latency problem

Hi there,
It seems that there's a prioritisation issue with the traffic here.
If you can run the wireshark as requested on your ticket yesterday I'd be happy to pick it up and get it pushed for you.
