Re: Final Fantasy XIV: Realm Reborn - Lag/Packet loss?

Mine is absolutely awful tonight too. Easily the worst it has been.

I'm guessing the upstream peer you've been talking about is Level3 and they seem to bounce us around London before moving to the states with quite high latency. I'm surprised the route is so different, as I thought plus.net was owned by BT

BT own us, but we are a completely separate entity.  I.e. our own network, datacentres etc.

Here are my results tracing route to Masamune (on the JP data centre).

Can you get your friend to do a traceroute to the game server from the BT connection so we can see which route the traffic is taking?  That may help.

Did the BT Trace Route help?

Re: Final Fantasy XIV: Realm Reborn - Lag/Packet loss?

For comparison this a traceroute from a Sky 80mb fibre connection that has had no lag issues at all since the game launched (Excalibur server). I don't know if this helps in any way at all.

Re: Final Fantasy XIV: Realm Reborn - Lag/Packet loss?

It seems painfully clear that Level3 are causing the packet loss evident in all of my traces, and have been for quite a while now  Sad
I have plenty of Pingplotter sample sets showing the packet loss, but I can't attach them.

Are you seeing packet loss from the final hop?  Or from hosts along the route.  You only need to care if you are seeing loss from that last hop as the others could just be the host discarding the packets.

I've got a network engineer having a quick look now.  Thanks

Most of them at varying times, but it seems much worse on the hosts in-between. It shows on my TBB ping monitor too..

Re: Final Fantasy XIV: Realm Reborn - Lag/Packet loss?

From the Sky and BT trace:
"ormuco-gw.ip4.tinet.net [216.221.156.110]"
From what I can tell, Ormuco are the ISP for Square Enix's montreal datacentre, and it looks like Tiscali have a gateway on that network via their Tinet network, which Sky and BT are using.  Is there any way Plusnet could specify some BGP rule that would force game traffic for the Canadian data centre to go priorise tinet.net?

EDIT:  For the people with issues on the JP centre, there was an announcement from SE:  http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/news/detail/88990d513327dc7cd7dd7de5c5d84cc4798b1647 ;   Did the issue clear up?

Your ping monitor is showing packet loss between you and the TBB monitor.  Nothing to do with FF.  Could be that a general line instability could be causing your problems though

Re: Final Fantasy XIV: Realm Reborn - Lag/Packet loss?

Ah sorry Kelly, I posted in this thread because I recognised some hops in people's trace routes, my problem is with World Of Tanks.
I suppose I could start a thread but my support ticket was added to your internal ticket ( 77436 ) so I haven't bothered so far.
Sorry for the confusion, I'll avoid posting in this thread again  Crazy

Re: Final Fantasy XIV: Realm Reborn - Lag/Packet loss?

Same thing with WoT to be honest.  Your graph definitely shows some packet loss at peak which we should workout what's going on there.

Re: Final Fantasy XIV: Realm Reborn - Lag/Packet loss?

Well if there is anything I can do to help, save running pingplotter on a spare laptop whenever I'm playing WOT, please feel free to ask!

Re: Final Fantasy XIV: Realm Reborn - Lag/Packet loss?

Sorry if I'm being a bit pushy, but any idea on how long it'll be before we start to see improvements/this being fixed? I understand putting a time frame on this is probably quite difficult, just thinking an estimate or something.
