Couldn't play any games online, upgraded to pro but still no different

I got plusnet value a few months ago and it was fine for browsing but nothing else.  I want to get back into online gaming on the PS3 so I upgraded to pro.
Got the email saying the product change is complete but I still can't get onto any games, get a connection lost message after a few seconds, any ideas?
My exchange isn't LLU enabled so plusnet pro looked like it's be ideal and I really don't mind paying the extra money if it gives me what I want!

Re: Couldn't play any games online, upgraded to pro but still no different

is your exchange 21cn adsl2+ enabled? http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php
looking at your stats i would say your on the 20cn adsl product or the value capped 21cn product. either way your on pro and if your exchange is enabled you should be on the adsl2+ service.
looking at the error rates in an hour and the limited ping results i cant see anything that would cause issues.
can you try running ping plotter or run a plain "ping -t bbc.co.uk" from the command prompt use crtl+c to stop the ping and copy paste any bits that have wild flucts in pings.
insure nothing else is using your conection at the same time as this will effect the ping esp on a 448kbps up connection

If this issue does pop up again, have a look here to see what the vp capacity is like at your exchange

BT is reporting that some of the virtual paths at this exchange are not operating within BT Wholesale's planning guidance, although they are still operating within the product specification.
At busy times, your ADSL connection may operate at a reduced speed, although not all customers on your exchange may be affected. You should only contact support if there is no current ETA date set.
The ETA fix time is: 23 May 10
Record last updated: 21 May 10
Historical information for this exchange:
Status Date
red 07 May 10
red 30 Apr 10
red 23 Apr 10
green 16 Apr 10
red 09 Apr 10

Would that explain it then?  On a few speedcheckers I was getting rubbish speeds last night, gta was playing ok though.

My exchange code is EASMN / Southminster, Essex.  Am I on a  ADSL2+/21CN product now?  That exchange checker does state there is capacity.

No your not on adsl2+.
looking at the recent history of vp capacity at your exchange it does not look good, there is away to find more history of your exchanges vp capacity but i forget the url for doing that ( hopefully jelv will see this and pass the url on as he has done a few times for me)
If your exchanges history of BT NOT sorting the pipes out when there running hot is real bad i would surrgest adding max preminum to your account which gives a contention  ratio of 20:1 rather than 50:1 and also gives you a 832kbps upsync rather than 448kbps.
The only other way to avoid BT's hot 20cn VP pipes is to move to a LLU provider, But the exchanges that BT tend to let run hot are market 1 exchanges which tend not to have any llu providers on. Also if you had the option to move to adsl2+ 21cn then you could of also done that as the 20cn and 21cn pipes are diffrent

Here's the full history for exchange: http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/?exchange=Southminster&exact=2729&plugin=vp&etashow=yes&full=1
Notice how BT keep pushing back the fix date!

Re: Couldn't play any games online, upgraded to pro but still no different

Is it possible to chase by on it? It wasn't letting me play when I just tried so I assume that's the issue then?
The joys of living in a village! No LLU and they don't bother fixing the bloomin' exchange.

Re: Couldn't play any games online, upgraded to pro but still no different

I see from searching that BT won't help so I've requested max premium to my account, so hopefully this will sort it although it's an expensive way of getting what I want.
If it doesn't sort it I guess I'll have to go back to value and put up with it until BT get their fingers out.
What does contention ratio mean?Huh

Re: Couldn't play any games online, upgraded to pro but still no different

Whilst contention ratios no longer exist since the release of the IPStream Max (upto 8Mbps), the 50:1 ratio meant that up to 50 people could share the same bandwidth across the BT Network, which would be upto 20 on the reduced contention.
On Max, IPStream Max Premium offers improved priority across the BT network.

Re: Couldn't play any games online, upgraded to pro but still no different

So it should in theory still give me what I'm wanting?
The fact you can change products monthly is certainly a helpful feature, if it doesn't work I can always go back and wait for BT to sort their issues.
