Can I assign my Xbox permanently to the 198.168.1.1 IP in my router?

Hi guys is there any way to make sure my Xbox gets always assigned to this address 198.168.1.1?

So long as you change the router's IP address from 192.168.1.1 to something else, yes...

Hi  can I ask what you mean? My router address is this 192.168.1.254 and within the router everything connected gets assigned 198.168.1.1 or 198.168.1.2 and so on but I always want my Xbox to be assigned 198.168.1.1 but have no clue how to do this

Most routers tend to be defaulted to 192.168.0.1 or  192.168.1.1 as their Web admin IP address, as for assigning  192.168.1.1 to your xbox, that depends on what router you have, and I'm sure there's plenty of threads on the forum on how to set it up... Smiley
(I don't use the supplied router, so, can't recall how to set it up, though I do recall it being a pain in the bum!)

You don't say what router you have which will make specific advice difficult.  Some routers will have an option within the DHCP setup GUI to always allocate the same IP address to a device (based on MAC address) or you may be able to set the address of the Xbox to 192.168.1.1 manually on the console and then change the DHCP range offered by the router to exclude this address eg set it to only give out 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.200 for instance.
I'm assuming that the first octet in your query being 198 instead of 192 is a typo by the way?

Thanks twocvbloke
Hi pwatson. Sorry yeah I have the 2704n router I should have said, and yes the IP was a pure mistake, it should be 192. Not 198. I find when my Xbox is allocated 192.168.1.1 it works much better than when assigned to any of the other addresses, I'm unsure why though which is why I wanted it to be permanently assigned that IP address.
