Battlefield 2142 ping (pc)

Once again i cant play alot of the servers which i have been on before. I get please "check you connection and try again" Also i could be playing on a server with a ping of 25-40 and then bang 130,230,1030......kicked from the server. The thing is that i have been playing this game for a while now and i know im quite good getting a good k/d ratio but my connection just gose crazy on me. I am on a wired connection with dmz on so all the ports are open and i also update punkbuster manualy so its up to date. When i do a speed test i get my normal speed which is 6818 kbs down and 377kbs up but thing is it seems that my connection is off then on again in a second,could this be with my exchange?

Hi there,
When you do a normal ping via a command prompt, does it also show poor latency at the same time?

I've got a copy of BF2142 somewhere at home, I'll fire it up and see what kind of pings I'm getting.

Thanks for the reply, i have been doing bt speed tests from sunday and this morning i have had a much better result. I have cheched bf2142 too and thats seems to be ok. I have checked if i have any windows/other updates in progress but i haven't.
James my friend said he thought it could be something to do with latency,if it is what should i do?
Chris can you  try a server called ukce 24/7 please its just for a test,i get a ping of 20-30.

Latency is ping (the amount of time it takes for a packet of data to get there and back) - sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs!
It'll be interesting to see how Chris' testing goes.

Unfortunately I can't remember the username or email address I registered the game under, therefore I can't actually play the game.

Never mind but thanks for trying also what should my mtu setting be in my router? It's set at 1492, because looking around on other treads peeps are saying it should be set at 1458. Do you think this is the problem with my ping?

I use 1430 on my PC at home.
Have you specified the MTU on your PC aswell as on the router?  If not, it can't hurt to try.  I'd keep it the same on both your PC and the router.

Ok I have changed the mtu on pc and router to 1430 i will see in 24 hours for the changes

Ok  it has been over 24 hours since i have changed the mtu on the pc and router to 1430 and the result are fantastic, my internet speed is better, more stable and battlefield 2142 is not lagging due to ping. I would also like to say thank you for your time to help me with this problem which i have been experiencing for a long time.
