BF4 ping spikes

Hi,
I joined up on Tuesday and started playing BF4 tonight. average ping seems to sit at 16 to a UK server (great) but there are constant ping spikes running up to 100 for a few seconds (up to 10) and then it drops off.  I've had a look around my network and tested without anything other than the PC connected (wired) and with nothing but BF running on the PC other than a few non net applications. Tracert normally looks (and plays) like this:

Any ideas?

Only thing I can suggest mate is to have a look and see what Upnp is set at, are you using the PN supplied router ? I bought my own router because I was getting ping spikes up to 999 with the PN supplied router, that was a Thompson though a few years back. Turning Upnp off helped a bit.

I am using the PN router (can't remember the make) and uPnP is switched on, but from my understanding of the trace it appears that the spike happens way down the line from my network. my networks internal speed appears to be fairly smooth and continuous in its speed.

I ran pingplotter to that ip address for about an hour at peak last night and it seemed to be really stable.  Do you see similar issues on other games?

Can't really tell, BF is about the only game where Ping is so visible, Wow does seem to have some spiking but I wouldn't notice it as much.

Just lately BF has been weird  the Odd ping spike & a lot of packet loss.
but its the game not the connection , my connection is still stable 72 down 17 up  unlimited fibre

Yeah I've been watching the bug reports for BF but this isn't something massively reported nor do any of my mates who play the game report anything near as bad as my connection is.

Have you noticed the new game warning , in the top right hand of screen ?  if you get packet loss you now get 4 overlapping squares showing.

Just an update turned off uPnP on the router and have seem huge decrease in the amount of spikes, once every couple of rounds now rather than 20 a round.

I must be getting tremendous packet loss Ron, as those squares never seem to be off my screen.

I've yet to see a YouTube video, uploaded since the patch that added that indicator, without those squares.

The past few months everyone playing bf4 has been having odd lag, like rongtw said its not your connection its the game. Saying that i have noticed that my ping has jumped from 19 to 36 in the past 3 weeks, when i jump gateways the ping jumps up slightly more, its not affecting gameplay but the lower the better for me. Maybe its a result of the bad weather thats been affecting areas of the uk.
Actully showing 29 at this time of testing, still higher than normal for me

The funny thing is Ron, I am getting the squares a lot, so I ran a TBB graph and it is showing no lost packets. I have no rubber banding, no lag, the only problem I face is that sometimes when the round switches I can't kill anything, as though I am firing blanks, then halfway through the round I am dead on, then it will just switch back to firing blanks again.
I go on yours and Ste's server and cant hit anything, but then I go on a DegC, ITG or Ally's Merc server and I end up 60 odd for 13. I am now rank 81, so if 110 is the limit then I should be able to bin it in a few months
