Re: BF3 getting worse

speeds back up normal but ping higher? sounds like interleaving.
I have many stores the same and maybe worse. My connection on the other hand is like business quality at the best of times and my hit detection can be next to nothing close range with a shot gun = should be a insta kill.
I simply put it down to EA and the hit detection use in bf3. I've been playing fast pace online FPS games since quake 3 arena and I haven't seen anything like this before in my life. Its just title rubbish. client side hit detection dose not work in fast pace games. You need point in the network between players to define time and client side dosn't do this. This is why two people can kill each other at the same time.
You should buy full server hosted games.
This isn't the only problem with client side games. They us P2P networking, now PN might prioritize P2P gaming traffic but the persons ISP on the other end may not, so who dose this benefit if say your actions are being delayed by your opponents ISP?

Re: BF3 getting worse

I recently had interleaving on to see if the increased latency would help, it didn't and I had interleaving switched off and asked for it to remain off.
My problem isn't just hit detection, the game is basically stuttering. I'd love to blame EA, but the game used to play perfectly - it doesn't any more. The only thing I've changed is my ISP, which brought with it a 50ms decrease in latency. I have mixed feelings, on one hand I've enjoyed the game for two years and it's at the end of its lifetime, but I'm also worried that I'll have the same issues with BF4.

Re: BF3 getting worse

Its self explanatory if you ask me, you upgrade to a better connection (talk talk to plusnet) to find your game runs worse. Its not until people see it first hand do they believe it but the better your connection/build the more of a disadvantage the lag compensation put you at. Dont for get all the other lag stuff I was talking about. So the guy with the P2P delayed ISP also gets an advantage because your ping is lower and less GPU usage.
I love the idea of the battlefield games but a good concept doesn't make a good game.
Until people stop supporting bad software then you really only have your self to blame. Sorry bud but I also feel your pane first hand.

My last point. I don't want an advantage over other people no more than I don't want them to have one over me. Skill is my game not lag.

I guess that depends  ???.

my connection is always between 351 and 373 (speed quoted in the game) at best yet the guy next door is showing a consistent 851 Kbps  the only difference is he's on TT...

Re: BF3 getting worse

If everyone that upgraded to a better connection said the game ran worse, I'd agree it was simple to see the issue, but there are people on Plusnet with the same latency that say the game runs great.

Re: BF3 getting worse

I just went on a server with my 30 + ping and was getting owned by someone with a 760 ping, so I thougth stuff it and went on an American server where my ping was 130. I was warping, lagging, all the other players were spinning round in circles. So it looks like with PN we are behind the 8 ball whether our ping is good or bad.

Re: BF3 getting worse

I try to play on US servers too, it's completely unplayable. I go back to EU servers and get owned by awful players from anywhere, lol. Looks like I'll have to stick to vehicles, even though they stutter I can at least survive as I can't be killed instantly.
After putting up with these problems I'd be next to invincible if it ever gets sorted, lol.

Re: BF3 getting worse

I didn't buy premium so I don't care about the double XP weekends, but this weekend double XP is for everyone, so I was looking forward to ranking up a bit quicker. I needed a good connection to rank up to get closer to 100 rank so I can stop playing BF3. Doesn't look like it is going to happen this weekend.  Roll_eyes

Re: BF3 getting worse

I'm not so worried about BF3, I just want to know I can jump into next-gen and BF4 and not have the same experience.
James, if you do decide to leave Plusnet, please come back and let me know how you get on with another provider.

Re: BF3 getting worse

Nobody can tell me this is EA, because I went on the Banana Republic server last night, and for the first time in weeks, I had a half decent game and came top of my side. I just played on the Banana republic, same map, and was lagging all over the place, and couldn't kill anything.
I am still getting disconnects, in fact I just had one, sync has dropped, noise margin has gone up.
I would prefer the truth PN, why can't you just say, "we don't know what is wrong, we can't fix your connection, and we are just spinning you along to get your money every month" because that is all it seems like to me.
Edit
No problem Wo0x, there is a number on the cab at the end of my road for fibre and apparently this company use their own cables and not BT cables, so I am going for a walk and jot the number down. AFAIK this company is only in South Yorkshire so it might not be any good for you, depending where you live mate. I only have about 4 months left on my contract now so I will get a couple of months of BF4 to see how it goes before I swap.
Edit 2
Ok make that 5 disconnects.

From what I can tell, I get a disconnect from the Exchange, this puts me on a different gateway, then I keep getting peer terminates until I am back on a shit gateway. I was on PCL ag02, and after all the disconnects, I am back on PCL ag02. So something is not right. If I restart my router to get on a different gateway, then I also get numerous peer terminates, until I am back on a shit gateway again.

Re: BF3 getting worse

I think they've been fairly honest that they don't know what's wrong, it's as much a mystery to them as it is to us. It's just incredibly frustrating to come here for support, the staff respond fairly quickly, they ask us to run tests, we give them the info they ask for and then... what?
It can't be low latency that's the problem as others with the same ping results aren't having problems, they say my line is fine and it can't be traffic being prioritised incorrectly as the ''all gold'' experiment hasn't made a difference.

This is the company in South Yorkshire, I might wait until BT fibre is here then the price might drop a bit.

Re: BF3 getting worse

I'm in a small village in Devon, my only hope for an upgrade is to 21CN WBC in December. Only just joined Plusnet, so it's likely it'll be with the same provider. Unless I hear someone that has my issues moves from Plusnet and suddenly has no issues, lol. Though I guess it'll need to be someone moving from ADSL to ADSL for it to have any bearing.
*edit* Tonight was the most horrendous lag I've ever experienced. Shooting people 3 or 4 times at point blank range with a shotgun and they still kill me.

Re: BF3 getting worse

JamesM: Its sounds like your line is unstable with noise problems. The thing is PN is owned by BT and are more likely to get a line fault fixed. As the problem will follow you unless fibre becomes available and then you stand a chance, if the problem is at the other end you will get a nice connection to the CAB.
Wo0x: Expect all new games to share this new technology adopted from the console market witch allows the load to be taken off the servers and dealt with by the client.

Next-gen used to mean something but now its just a commercial term used as a sales tactic.
