Software Theft

Hi all...

I finally bought HalfLife yesterday after weeks of badgering by a mate. £20 from PC World for HalfLife Generations (includes Opposing Forces, Counter Strike & Blue Shift).

Great I thought... until I tried to logon just now... some b##tard is using MY CD KEY and preventing me from signing onto a server !!!

Anyone else had this happen ? If so, is there anything I can do about it ?

I know that cracks and cd key generators exist, but I BUY all my games, and it p###es me off when some thief prevents me from playing a game I have paid for !

Not a happy bunny...
Daniel.

Hi there,

There is a possibility that someone copied the key before you bought it or more likely is that someones keygen happened to generate that particular key Sad

You can get it changed by the manufacturer but I wouuld try taking it back to PC World first as I am pretty sure they have a returns policy.

Yep, their returns policy is that they don't accept retunrs unless the product is faulty.

Which, thinking about it is

I've had fun taking stuff back to PCW in the past.

RE: Software Theft

step 1: Obtain rubber and slowly rub out a number on the box (one of the cd key numbers) - do not destroy the bit of paper that the key is on, or it will look as if it has been fiddled with.
step 2: Go to Pc World, tell them the key is unreadable as one of the letters is faded, hence the game doesnt work
step 3: Get a new copy and go home and play !!

A friend of a friend *chortle* of a friend once did this and it works fine. (if you happen to mention that the game was for your little brothers birthday, most staff will just bend and give you a replacement). Its annoying that you would have to do this, as what happened is not your fault, but thats life !.

On the otherhand, its strange that you are having troubles being connected. I've seen a few friends try and use the same CD and they can join servers with no problems as long as they dont join the same one. As soon as they join the same one, they get the "CD-Key already in use" message.

Also watch one of your mates hasnt nicked your key, a friend of mine wrote my key down when i went to the toilet, he wanted it so that he could connect to the same server with his 2 pc's.

just a thought......

RE: Software Theft

Cheers Dude...

Only had it happen a couple of times... not ecerytime I play it. Guess I'm just unlucky to want to play on the same server game as the little turd who is using a copy, and my key.

Haven't had it happen for a few days, so I won't worry about it too much.

I prefer Medal of Honour anyway ! Can't beat a multiplayer assault on Omaha beach !!!

Thanks for your help,
Daniel
