fttc installed friday 04/03/2011. over 24 hours on, my download speed is half a meg, but upload is fine at 8 meg plus.

it shows just over 500k download and 8M upload, profile for download is about 38m

If https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed does not show 20Mb or 37Mb then you need to ring support and get the plusnet profile set for FTTC.
Until the profile is correct you won't see any change in speeds.
