Re: WiFi Dropouts and slow down

That's my TV. It is quite old but always find it works better wired directly to the hub.

Re: WiFi Dropouts and slow down

It will - Ethernet connections are always better than Wi-Fi, especially for such equipment, but it shouldn't be constantly losing connection.

Re: WiFi Dropouts and slow down

Hi. The reset button could well have been me. When I was on the phone to them they did ask me to do a couple of resets.

The fault is definitely intermittent. It seems to connect, then drops the connection a few minutes later and just keeps doing it. A fault in the fibre network wouldn't surprise me at all. When they did the original connection, nearly a year ago, there was no fibre available on my nearest telephone pole, so they took it from a pole which is way down the road. They did say at the time it was an awfully long stretch of cable, but should work. The cable passes through some overhead electricity cables too. TBH It's been working fine until now. It might be coincidence, but Openreach have replaced now the pole opposite my house and put a fibre connection on it. They've been working there on and off the last 3 weeks, so it's odd that my connection has mysteriously become faulty now.

For the avoidance of doubt, do the router lights change colour when you encounter issues?

Hi. No, the router lights stay blue at all times. The ont has three green lights in at all time with the third light occasionally flickering.

Re: WiFi Dropouts and slow down

That would seem to point away from a PPP / carrier drop.

Re: WiFi Dropouts and slow down

Thank you for your reply, but that's way above my knowledge. All I can confirm is that internet connection is dropping out and in, every few minutes, on every connected device in the house. The Hub 2 I was using until this morning was less than a year old and the brand new one they sent me today, is just the same. All I want is a stable, useable service, which Ive had for the last 9 months, until last week. It was such a huge problem getting the full fibre connection in the first place. Sorry, I'm just really fed up with it now. There was so much I wanted to do this week but now can't due to this.

I understand your frustration, @ijb59 , and wish there was something I could suggest.

@ijb59

Are you still using the replacement Hub and could we have another event log please?

Re: WiFi Dropouts and slow down

Yes, no problem. To be honest, I've turned most things that connect off, because their continuously trying to connect was getting on my nerves lol.

Re: WiFi Dropouts and slow down

I'll take a full look at this in the morning,

Good news no further ERROR_NO_CARRIER messagers.

Other than a Sky box, Samsung TV, RoKu Express and your S-A56 what other devices are you using?

Do you have any wireless repeater, if so what make/model?

Re: WiFi Dropouts and slow down

Hi Dan. Thanks for that, very much appreciated. I just tried to reply to your message with WiFi, but nothing would open again so turned it off in my phone. I haven't got a Sky Box? The only things I connect to the WiFi are the Samsung TV, the Roku Box, my Galaxy A56, a Amazon Alexa and very occasionally, a laptop. I don't use any WiFi repeaters at all. I usually get a perfect signal all through the house. I'm currently sat right next to the Router and my phone connects, but says, connected no internet.

Re: WiFi Dropouts and slow down

Just as an update, this evening it entered my head to do a Speed test. I connected my laptop to the Router with a cable, although the laptop was saying the network was limited. I logged into the Router admin panel and tried to do speed test through there but the test wouldn't load. I then tried varion speed tests on the internet. The Ookla one was the only one that would run. I got 49.65 Download and 28.79 Upload, screenshot attached. I'm in Full Fibre 145, so I'm guessing something is drastically wrong?

No guessing needed - there is something definitely not right.

Re: WiFi Dropouts and slow down

For the avoidance of doubt, can you please affirm that the only network device in your set up is the Plusnet hub 2 … no

  • Switches
  • WiFi repeaters
  • Ethernet over power adapters
  • Discs
  • Mesh devices

Can you please download inSIDDer and take a look at the local WiFi spectrum.
