Or is this just a simplified way to class the FTTC 80/20 trial users?

No, it's nothing to do with the 80/20 trial, it's just an "unlimited" value that is a hangover from ADSL2+.

I appear to have the same problem but never reach a speed higher than 38mbps whether on 40/2 pr trial 80/20.
I am told I can't raise a fault if speed is over 12 mbps!
If that is the case -what is the point of having fibre?
So -I will raise a tcket and see what happens!
By the way I am about 700 metres from the fibre cabinet- so that is possibly slowing me down a bit- but BT engineer, when he fitted it, about a month ago, said on normal rate ( up to 40mbps) - I should get about 37mbps- so nothing improved when I went on trial 80/20 other than upload speed - now 6mbps! should my profile be reduced to 20 ( now states 40)?

You are similar to me, I am about 650mtrs from my cabinet, I was getting 38/2 and then switched to the 80/20 trial and I was getting  50/11 but it now seems to be dropping a bit, it was stable at 46/11 but is now at 41/10, over the weekend my profile was changed from 20 to 40 and my speed reduced to 37/10, now reset to 20 and I am back at 42/10

Ah that's fantastic! Just done a quick SpeedTest now - must say I'm rather happy with the upgrade. Plus the pro bolt-on is a fantastic addition to this package - I would recommend it to anyone like me who can't wait for the twilight hours.

It's normal to put the URL between the tags. So Click the Insert Image button (this puts the cursor in the right place) and paste.
You end up with

which gives you
