There are no overheads to consider with FTTP.

I think you'll find there are overheads which will probably vary in size according to protocol, e;g. TCP packet overheads.

As @RealAleMadrid alluded to, with overheads you'll get a maximum DL speed of about 76.xx Mbps on an 80 Mbps connection.  Wink

There's an encryption overhead too so we don't see our "neighbours'" traffic!

Just to add to this - it seems I have a band applied at 76.8Mbps. Is this usually the case or should it be the full 80? Upstream is the full 20..

 

For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 40 Mbps-76.8 Mbps .
 Additional Information:
 IP Profile for your line is - 76.8 Mbps

Ok, let me rephrase my question.

Given that the service is 80/20 which is what the IP profiles would be set to on an FTTC line, why does the same not apply to the FTTP lines?
Why is the upstream profile set to the full 20 and not the downstream.
Rather than just enjoy the line, I’d to get to know it’s workings too.

Should I expect a 300/30 line in the future to have a downstream profile of 280Mbps and upstream of 30Mbps?
