Installation of Fibre - was there any point?

Had fibre installed yesterday and now faced with the horror of slower speeds than copper broadband when downloading. 3.5mb if I'm lucky.  Waited for 30 minutes to speak to Tech Support tonight,  eventually got through and got cut off within a minute.  Not a good start.

Hopefully the guys on here will just need to tweak your speed settings (sometimes it doesn't automagically do it when you move over to FTTC)
What were your predicted speeds ? Also make sure you take any speed tests via a wired connection rather than wireless.
