Re: Incomplete Full Fibre Installation

@Baldrick1  Separate BT contracts was confirmed a few posts earlier by @theleprechaun . You're suggesting the same as I proposed as an option to consider, i.e. new/independent FTTP. Which way they go will be interesting but they do at least have choices, even if they're not what were expected and unfortunately exclude what they first thought would happen.

Re: Incomplete Full Fibre Installation

@HPsauce

I see potential issues everywhere here.

If the two accounts are totally separate and the copper connection is not disturbed then short of BT screwing up which service to cancel, I can see no problems with @theleprechaun proceding with the original plan to switch the Plusnet service from FTTC to FTTP. However, I would still suggest it prudent to check with BT as an enquiry, without indicating to BT that they are contempleting cancelling the service.

This is still just delaying another potential issue coming in the near future. By the end of the year the other line is going to be converted to a Digital Phone service. Will BT change that to a copper based service, or will they spot that there is already FTTP available and try take that over? It might depend on whether this is a fibre priority area. More and more are going this way as the year progresses.

The logical way to have handled this from the start would be to move when @theleprechaun contract expired, then for Father's phone line to have been converted to Full Fibre with a digital phone with BT or EE. They offer a free adapter that enables an analogue phone to be connected remotely from the router. The phone number would have been seamlessly transferred. If son wanted a landline phone number then use a third party VoIP provider for this. Once this was working the other contract could have been cancelled. This would have worked out with no potential issues or cancellation charges. But we are where we are!

@theleprechaun

After hiding details can you post the results from the following for both phone numbers. Include the narrative below the results window.

Might not tell us anything useful but you never know.

Re: Incomplete Full Fibre Installation

@theleprechaun

A question already asked is would your parents be happy with an independant VOIP account running off your Full Fibre service?

If the answer is yes consider buying a more feature rich Router link the FritxBox 7530 (the AX version has better WIFi). Three reasons aprt from it's a well regarded router. See

https://uk.webuy.com/search?stext=fritzbox%20routers

1) You can set up a Guest account for your parents to give them internet access.

2) It has a built in ATA (Analogue Telephone Adapter) for phones.

3) It has a built in DECT Base Station.

Re: Incomplete Full Fibre Installation

@theleprechaun

One further question to ask- you mentioned there are two phone lines from the drop cable- are you actually using the phone number that goes to your bedroom on the white cable, or is the line used for broadband services only?

Re: Incomplete Full Fibre Installation

Hi Ali,

It's mainly for broadband, but I do use the phone sometimes.

Re: Incomplete Full Fibre Installation

Thanks everyone for your comments!

I have an Openreach engineer booked for 13th May, so hopefully we will get it installed and activated without disconnecting my fathers phone line.

@theleprechaun

Here's hoping for the desired outcome. Do let us know how it goes.
