IP Profile on FTTP 80/20

Just checking out the "New" BTW Speedtest which is producing strange results but I did note that the IP Profile for my 80/20 FTTP line is now set to

Additional Information:
 IP Profile for your line is - 76.8 Mbp

on the "further Diagnostics" results,

Is that right? It used to be set to 88Mbp.

Re: IP Profile on FTTP 80/20

@SpendLessTime

I'm on 80/20 FTTP also but I don't ever recall seeing my IP profile set any higher than 7x.xxMbps (can't remember the actual number but about 77Mbps ?).

However I don't run the test very often but I was curious so I just ran the 'standard' BTW test (not sure if it's new or not) and got a farcical result (see below).

I ran the first part of the test twice because the download was indicated in the 66Mbps region with high latency.  The second run also produced around 66Mbps but lower latency.

I then ran the 'Further Diagnostics' with the following result which appears to show the tester is highly confused!

Just ran it again and got different results, but it's still confused, showing my upload speed in excess of 29Mbps !

Yes BT have changed the tester recently to stop requiring Flash support and there is general agreement that it is now completely broken, giving ridiculously high or low speed figures and other weirdness.

OK, thanks for that info, that'll save me enabling Flash in future to run the test and then forgetting to disable it. (If they ever manage to get it working properly)  Smiley

Re: IP Profile on FTTP 80/20

@RealAleMadrid

I had been following that thread so I'm not concerned about the weird speed test results (I was getting 33Mbps upload!). It was specifically the IP Profile as I'm used to a much higher value and it has been consistent for many years (as you would hope on FTTP)

@RobPN

Looks like the IP Profile isn't being returned correctly either as your 2 tests showed different IP Profile speeds. Mine was consistent across multiple tests but I was used to seeing 88Mbps IP Profile.

Posted to the "BTW Speed test results are wrong" thread with a link back here, as the IP Profile reporting maybe linked to that issue.

edit to add about other thread on Fibre board.

Re: IP Profile on FTTP 80/20

@SpendLessTime, it's likely that 88mbps was an incorrect result as you're provisioned on 80/20.

Perhaps the speedtester felt like a DeLorean. Roll_eyes

@RobPN, those results are odd. I'll raise it when I pick up this topic shortly.

Can we keep everything relating to the BT speedtester in one place via the linked topic above which is linked from a pinned post at the top of the Fibre Broadband board.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

@Gandalf

For the avoidance of doubt, AFAIK there's nothing actually wrong with my connection.  Smiley

Re: IP Profile on FTTP 80/20

Mine line seems okay too, as the normal tests at dslreports are as consistent as they always have been.

It was just a question about the IP Profile that made me think as it was now reporting consistently lower than I'm used to. Rob's results were unexpected as it varied per test.

I had always worked on the assumption that IP Profile for FTTP would be a fixed value with zero variation.

Anyway I wont add more here but on that other thread if I have more issues or info to add.
