Having to reset and wifi

Im having a problem where im having to reset my router everyday as it constantly drops to say 20 - 30 mbps from 450mbps or so and once I reset my router it goes back up to a higher speed. Im on full fiber 500. Im also having trouble where my devices are extremely slow on wifi with no wall and only being about 3 meters away from the router. This is also happening on multiple devices like firestick and mobile phones. Even when I stand next to my router with my phone it is still showing these slow speeds but not at all times. I have also tried changing channels with no difference. This has happened since I moved to a new house a few months ago and did not have the same issues in my last house. Its the same equipment I was using before.

Thanks

Re: Having to reset and wifi

Is the speed drop only seen on Wi-Fi devices or does it affect a device if it's wired to the hub too?

Wireless devices will connect to one of the hub's two radios - 2.4GHz or 5GHz. The former works better at range/with obstructions but is significantly slower (< 100mbps); the latter is a lot faster but not as good at range/with obstructions.

Which band your devices connect to is largely dependent on the device capability/behaviour e.g. if you move away from the hub then a device may drop to 2.4GHz and take some time to move back to 5GHz when conditions improve/you move closer.

It would be interesting to know if the speed returns to normal if you simply toggle Wi-Fi off/on on an affected device when stood next to the hub.

Tip: you can see which devices are connected to which radios by navigating to the Hub manager at http://192.168.1.254 and browsing the Network Map/list of connected devices.

Re: Having to reset and wifi

Hi it happens on the wired devices to pc and PlayStation, drops from around 400 to 450 down to 20 to 30 until reset. Thanks

Re: Having to reset and wifi

When the problem occurs, what does the connection speed to your Openreach ONT show in the Hub Manager? From memory it’s seen when clicking the top-left tile at http://192.168.1.254

It should show 1000mbps. I’m wondering if there are occasions where it’s dropping lower. Another thing that would help narrow the cause a little would be for you to try powering the ONT off/back on the next time it happens, instead of the hub, and see if that yields the same outcome?

Re: Having to reset and wifi

I powered it off and it made little difference I reset my router to factory settings and again got speeds of up to 260 now the same night I'm getting 2 mps on my firestick beside my router. My phone has been between 480 to as low as 25. My laptop hardwired was 90.
