Zen do charge differently, depending on which carrier they use in a particular area - City Fibre or BT.

Zen must charge different prices for different areas where we live its £35 pm with a £15 set up fee
Zen offer FTTP over Openreach or where available CityFibre
When CityFibre is available, then Zen will offer you that - as it is considerably less expensive.
You can tell which you are being offered, as Openreach has a lower upload speed than the download,
whereas CityFibre upload and download speeds are the same.

EE is right and wrong at the same time. No one can offer you "WBC FTTC" pn can't idnet cant etc; any one who uses or's products can't do that anymore. Why; because WBC FTTC is an analog phone plus vdsl2 product. What Pn is now offering like many others who use OR products is "WBC SOGEA" which is vdsl2 only - no analog phone connection.
Both are still fttc as its fibre to cabinet internet.
This is how EE is both right and wrong.
When we went with EE FTTC a while ago there were no fibre connections in our Close so we had to have FTTC but still lost our house phone which we did'nt use anyway as we both have U/L calls on our mobile phones
I went into the Vodafone shop and they said the same as EE OR will go FTTP
We will have to see what happens when the contract ends and price EE offer

Hi, I read this after phoning PN and signing up for PN FF145!
Yes, it looks like Zen are the better option for my area when compared to other areas. I didn't know there were regional differences. I dithered for ages and ages between the two deals, but I decided to stay with PN and get the FTTP installed. I'm not keen on change, so just getting the FTTP installation is enough change for now. My thinking is, if the service and/or price turns out to be unsatisfactory after the 24 months are up, or if it's terrible and I'm allowed out of my contract early, I will be able to switch to Zen or another ISP without the worry of the installation process in addition to the switching process.
So, I've been told the earliest date for the engineer is 17th March. I am waiting for the confirmed date. The PN agent said she will credit my account with the difference between my current price and the out-of-contract price so I am not penalised from going out-of-contract during the FTTP installation phase. Will have to see how it goes. Fingers crossed it's a smooth transition.

That's very interesting we only have OR cables in our area I have checked on the CityFibre site and this came up
Thanks for your interest, we haven’t planned your area at the moment.
Clarissa should check with CityFibre to see what they offer

@Smith7 The prices you quote above are the 'published' prices, which until maybe 18 months back is what you would pay. Since Zen have now dropped their 'Price for Life' offer in favour of a 'no mid-term' - i.e. truly fixed price contracts, they still publish those headline prices, but are now open to negotiation, although they don't agree to silly prices that cost them.
I moved from 40/10 FTTC to the 100/20 FTTP product a year ago - and got a price reduction into the bargain.

They do - when I switched to FTTP, the guy in sales actually checked for me if CF were available as he said it would be cheaper. Unfortunately, although they are cabling on new developments, it is - so far - not availabe city-wide, although I have asked CF to notify me when they plan to cover my area, at which point I will be talking to Zen to see if I can get CF, which I was unofficially told shouldn't be a problem. However, until I get confirmation from CF, I am happy as I am.

If you checked the Zen site for prices after running their availablity checker then if CF is avaiable that's the priced they woud have quoted. If not, they would give you the OR price.
If you get OR FTTP now and move to Zen / CF later then you need a second ONT installed. CF use different equipment from OR.

I did wonder if City Fibre connections were handled differently to OR ones. I suppose I won't be able to avoid another installation if I decide to switch to Zen later, after all.

@Clarissa When did you place the order with PN for FTTP? I'm guessing fairly recently, in which case you will still be within the cooling off period.
Can I make a suggestion? Ring Zen tomorrow and ask them who they would supply over, and what the price would be. From my dealings with them, they are extremely helpful, and don't pressure you - you decide what you want, tell them and they work to your requirements.

@Clarissa if you want to continue to have a landline house phone, then Zen can also migrate your phone number to their "digital voice", and all you'd need to do is plug your existing telephone handset/base in to the Zen router's phone socket.
If you wanted to keep your phone and stay with Plusnet, then you'd have to find a third party VoIP supplier, buy a VoIP adaptor for your phone (or replace your phone), setup the adaptor/phone with the relevant configuration, before the end of 2025 (when the PSTN phone system is switched off).

The quickest way to check to see if it's available is to use the CityFibre site - https://cityfibre.com/

True - although I still suggest a call to Zen.
