Re: Full Fibre 500 upgrade speed only averaging 50mbps

I don't have a spare one, (as it was the engineer had to use the one that connected my central heating hub) I'll have to order one from somewhere.. does it have to be a particular sort? Thanks.

So long as it is Cat5e or better, no.

@mpsoborne if you want one quickly and have a Toolstation

nearby then

https://www.toolstation.com/cat5e-utp-patch-lead/p14536

https://www.toolstation.com/cat5e-utp-patch-lead/p31020

will do fine depending on how long a cable you need

Re: Full Fibre 500 upgrade speed only averaging 50mbps

@mpsoborne  There is another thread on this board where the WAN link speed was 100Mbit and restarting the Hub2 router cured the problem. The poster actually changed the power supply and came to the conclusion that the original one was faulty, this is debateable, it may just be the power reset that caused the Hub to connect at 1Gbit. Could be worth a try.

This is the thread ..... Incorrect WAN link speed

Your central heating hub won't need >100mbps, so if the lengths of the cables are appropriate you could just swap them over (at least until you get a new cable)

Re: Full Fibre 500 upgrade speed only averaging 50mbps

I only have the one which he removed from the central heating hub and used it to connect the router to the ONT, it has nothing printed on the cable so may be just a cheap one I don't know.

I have a new one coming today a Cat 5e so fingers crossed this will help with the speed.

There would have been an ethernet cat5e  cable supplied with the Plusnet hub, do you not still have that ?

@mpsoborne You should have had an ethernet cable supplied with the Plusnet Hub2, it looks like the cable you are using could be the problem, but did you try restarting the Hub2 as I suggested in my post yesterday.

Re: Full Fibre 500 upgrade speed only averaging 50mbps

Hi, yes restarted the hub and you're right I would have had one with the hub, very odd that it's not there. Anyway, when new one arrives I'll give that a go see if there's any difference. Thanks.

Ok, have fitted new ethernet cable, speed now reaches 300mbps using wifi, what an improvement.

Thank you all for your suggestions.
