It was mandated by OFCOM when Openreach was made in to a separate company within BT Group in 2006. In 2015, BT did try to get that changed, but apparently other ISPs objected. From: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Openreach#Independence_from_BT_Group

"Telecoms provider customers who have problems cannot directly contact Openreach and have to go indirectly through their service provider. In 2015 BT consulted on the possibility of allowing Openreach to deal directly with consumers, which would have required the approval of Ofcom, but withdrew the proposal, partly due to objections from other service providers."

Thanks for the info, yeah the ISPs messed up big time on that, considering my situation - I am sure I am not a unique case either.

However if I were to push OR on the fact the fibre isn't really completed internally and not talk about the ISP, surely that would warrant them to check - if it was a general question. I dunno. I am willing to try everything with the kitchen sink to just get this whole debacle to work Tongue

Re: Finally FTTP has arrived for me

Hi @TheRealDabhand

I'm really sorry to hear about the situation you've had trying to upgrade to Full Fibre.

Unfortunately, when orders keep getting cancelled and replaced it does push things to the back of the queue and as such Openreach's systems won't see the delays on the previous order and assume it's a straightforward install which we know in this case it isn't

I've asked Openreach to link all your orders together and confirm the external work is done. All being well we should get a confirmation in the next 24/48 hours.

After the 3rd of November I will have a limited presence here as I have moved to a new role

Re: Finally FTTP has arrived for me

Hi Matthew,

That would be great, it would be peace of mind, but also I hope they knock on my door to show me what is done - the GPS to my building sometimes isn't 100% correct and I am worried that they may end up at a different building. Sometimes happens with deliveries from takeaways or supermarkets, so hopefully they will do this and show me.

Cause I don't want them coming on the 5th Dec and then not able to do anything again. I have been nice and not got back to PN about the failed appointments and the £30.49 payment for the one cancelled appointment which I wasn't notified under 24 hours to go for the 12th November which I arranged with OR to do when they sent a text to arrange it. Or the £6.10 per day for failing to start the service as per agreement.

I just looked in the communal cupboard and it is still only the copper cinderblock wall mount there, so not sure how they could say it is done, also been here the last couple of days and not heard anyone or had OR buzz in (we are the first flat of the block so we always seem to get buzzed first).

So I guess they just looked on the system of theirs seen it is listed as all work done and just said it is done, instead of coming out possibly. I really need them to come out and physically check with their own eyes and let me know where it is, so when I guess Circet sends another engineer I can point them in the right direction.

Re: Finally FTTP has arrived for me

What annoying me is Openreach should have send text message to the person if any of external work is done because it isn't very fair to keep the customer in the dark without knowedge. I know plusnet is a big ISP company but they should have informed the person how the process went.

I am with my smaller ISP as I do remember Openreach do text me keep me updated on the work process and give me url link to go online for the Openreach work in process before signed off (for my G.fast external work) I don't understand why isn't Openreach do the same for everyone in Plusnet for any future work in FTTP etc.

Re: Finally FTTP has arrived for me

I did get a text from OR on the 8th of this month, and they asked me to reschedule by picking a date, which they sent a text back for the 12th November, which was cancelled under 24hrs on the 11th and I wasn't notified so spent a whole day wasted unpaid again. Problem is I simply do not see any difference nor any new OR wall mounts etc. So I am not sure if they went to a wrong address at my Post Code, there is several buildings, or they just looked at the system and it said available and just assumed it is all done and nothing needed to be completed.

It is just frustrating when I can't convey this to OR themselves and have to rely on Plusnet to pass that information on. It's a bit like Chinese whispers was everything I conveyed to Plusnet then conveyed to OR in full or not?

Hi Matthew, I have been asking you if you could check that they were physically at the address to see it has been done or did they just check their systems which falsely shows it is done.

There is a big difference here. Because they have said it was done before and it wasn't. As we are getting closer to the 5th, I am worried that another Circet engineer will come out and declare it can't be done. And I can't talk to OR to push that it isn't done.

Again I have not seen any OR engineer here at this address or buzzed in (talked to neighbours they said they didn't buzz anyone in - most work so wouldn't be in most of the time), so how can they say it is done if they haven't physically been here to say it is or not. Very frustrating process.

Also, my new employer let me go, they got fed up with this process also. So I am quite angry now with the whole situation. It should NEVER have gone this far.

@TheRealDabhand Sorry to hear this. Very badly let down by OR.

Re: Finally FTTP has arrived for me

If they (OR) had a simple online form to say you are listed as FTTP ready but report it as untrue and to have it looked at physically, it would solve a lot of problems that potentially other people have had similar to myself.

FTTP don't use any stats from router! I think you meant you on VDSL?

Re: Finally FTTP has arrived for me

I think you need to read the entire thread mate, I don't have FTTP because everything is being mucked about, OR wont come check if the external work is fully complete, Circet engineers can't install ONT because they can't find where to start from and so on.

The stats were from a couple of minutes ago on my current connection. I was just pointing it out to show even on my current connection nothing is fine there either.
