There is a £500 (+VAT) connection charge and another distance based charge ranging from £200 - £3500 (+VAT) depending how far you live from the NGA Aggregation Node. There's a minimum 36 month contract and £38 (+VAT) monthly rental charge with BTO for the up to 330Mb/30Mb, which means any ISP have to add their bandwidth costs/overheads to the monthly charge when it's passed on to the end user.
Interesting there are no speed variants on offer for FTTPoD. I suppose though that if you can afford the installation costs, you're going to be only interested in the quickest variant available.
It looks like those kind of prices are only going to attract businesses (way cheaper than leased line alternatives) and wealthy individuals at the moment.

There's an error in the wording on the BT price page
Quote Approximately 4% of premises are 2km or further from the exchange
Should read aggregation node surely...

From a BTO point of view the connection is a fixed speed - What the ISP chooses to provide over the link is another matter...

I've only just placedd my PN FTTC order (cab went live on the checker Friday), but as the BT predicted speed is 9.9MB (compared to the 4.86 uplift rating rpiror to live, which on my 6MB connection would actually be approx 30MB, not 9.9MB) if the actual installed speed is as dire as that I'll be seriously considering FTTP, even at that cost.

It must be 2km+ for an estimated 9.9Mb

I had a 2nd line installed a few weeks back (that's still on standard ADSL, it's the original that I'm taking to FTTC with PN) and the engineer estimated 400-450m
As said, quite a strong (ish) ADSL2 signal so this would tally?

This is the FTTC table of speeds/distance to cabinet:
Distance to cabinet (metres) Estimated connection speed Cumulative%'age of premises at this distance
100m 100 Mbps 5%
200m 65 Mbps 20%
300m 45 Mbps 30%
400m 42 Mbps 45%
500m 38 Mbps 60%
600m 35 Mbps 70%
700m 32 Mbps 75%
800m 28 Mbps 80%
900m 25 Mbps 85%
1000m 24 Mbps 90%
1250m 17 Mbps 95%
1500m 15 Mbps 98%
VDSL2 Profile 17a, cabinet to premises speed estimate
I would have thought (if the engineer is right about the distance) you'd be looking at 40-50Mb.

Is it possible to pre register for FTTP?
I'm very serious about it, and accept the likely costs (if I manage to keep it below the 2k install barrier)

BTO's minimum term is 36 months for FTTPoD and I imagine the monthly rental will be £50+

Thanks Andy
P.S: I'm aware of the 36 month contract, done a lot of research into this product

It's still possible to register interest for FTTP (and subsequent trials when we participate) here: https://trials.plus.net
