FTTP worse than my FTTC

Hi guys, recently upgraded to full fibre after waiting so long for my area to get it. I had a mesh network with a 3rd party router. But that router doesn't support fttp so im using the provided hub 2 router with my tplink deco mesh network. Everything is "working" but the speeds are so so slow. Not even getting the minimum 250mb download. I average around 70ish, which is what I was getting with standard broadband. Any advice? Seen some sruff on bridge mode helping but dont wanna bodge things up. Many thanks

@jtcsmith

Have you tested the download speed using a wired connection to the Hub2?

Speed tests on WiFi are unreliable as other factors unconnected to the actual dwonload speed beng received.

Re: FTTP worse than my FTTC

Ye Ethernet which just isnt a practical solution in the house i get over 300. Wifi 70mb. I understand its my mesh but why would that affect the speeds by that huge margin?

Something is not playing nice between the Hub2 and your mesh unit. Hopefully people with better knowledge of things things than I will pop up and offer suggestions.

Only thing I can think of is to factory reset all the equipment and start afresh.

@jtcsmith

Possibly because of the way that you are connecting it. You should have your Mesh router plugged directly into the BT ONT, you do not need the Hub 2.

Set the Deco up as a PPPoE interface and enter your username in the form of username@plusdsl.net and password directly into the Deco

Re: FTTP worse than my FTTC

Never use Wi-Fi for speed tests unless you really have to, to be honest put Ethernet on everything you can.  I have seen on so many forums of people having problems with FTTP. We have FTTP here, but I am in now rush to move

Re: FTTP worse than my FTTC

What type of DECO models are you using?

Can the DECOs actually support faster speeds?

For example the E4 range only have 100 Mbps Ethernet interfaces.

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/deco/deco-e4/#specifications

100 Mbps is the maximum data throughput, despite all the marketing BS re faster WiFi speeds.

Re: FTTP worse than my FTTC

Using DecoM5, one plugged into plusnet hub 2, and a further 2 around the house. Understabd every hop reduces speed by half, but speed i get right next to hub 2 is below 100mb. Tried mesh straight into ONT and nothing

you will need to set the deco internet connection to PPPoE and enter your plusnet username & password

Also , make sure you've got any QoS functionality disabled on the Deco!

Re: FTTP worse than my FTTC

Deco M5's have gigabit ports so they should not be the speed limiter.

Are you using Cat5e or Cat6 cables?

Using Cat5 may limit speeds to 100Mbps

https://www.diffen.com/difference/Cat5_vs_Cat5e

Do the Decos report the Ethernet port connection speed in the App?
