Here's a speed test I did a couple of minutes ago, over wireless.

I'm going to have another go using the PC as a PPPoE client connecting directly to the ONT.

Following on from this, I connected my laptop directly to the ONT and could only achieve download speeds of between 62Mb/s and 64Mb/s. Once connected back on wireless, that shot back up to 80Mb/s odd again. Bizarre!
Once again, upload speeds are very consistent across the board at around 15.3Mb/s.

Re: FTTP in MK - what speeds are you getting?

Mine has been installed for two months now, with only one or two restarts of the modem - for updates.
First thing in the morning my connection is in to the 90s and it drops to 60-70s during peak period of evenings

Re: FTTP in MK - what speeds are you getting?

My speed has suddenly dropped off...
Was getting +85mbps using wired connection from Walnut Tree,Milton Keynes for the first week. Yesterday it suddenly dropped to 20mbps and has stayed there. Bizzarely the dial tone on our landline has gone as well. Smells like engineering work gone wrong! or maybe they've swapped our lines over! Is anyone else suddenly getting better speeds in Walnut Tree?

Re: FTTP in MK - what speeds are you getting?

Hi - I just got going these past 2 days (in Monkston) and my initial (very first) test (via Speedtest.net) yesterday, directly connecting my ONT to my PC (whilst I was waiting for my correct modem/router to arrive) gave me D/L speeds of 69.46 and U/L of 9.9 (compared to 1.82 down and 0.38 up on my ADSL line). Today, my new wireless router arrived, and on setup, I am getting around 86Mbps cabled and around 15-18Mbps wireless on various devices - very pleased!

Re: FTTP in MK - what speeds are you getting?

I checked the speed on my old  laptop with AV and firewall on, but connected to lan port on router, wireless off:
31Mb/s d/l and 9.7Mb/s u/l on BT speed checker.
I then checked with my newest laptop, firewall off, lan cabled:
67.1Mb/s d/l and 6.7Mb/s u/l on BT speed checker and 65Mb/s d/l and 15Mb/s u/l on 'speedtest.net'.
The best speed was 70Mb/s on my PS3!
Connectivity during the trial has been 99% and very good. It looks like BT has done something to improve the speed to my connection and improved it significantly. The service that Plusnet have provided so far has been outstanding and the communication is brilliant.
I'm not sure if my FTTP line should see even higher speeds but it's plenty quick enough for me.

Re: FTTP in MK - what speeds are you getting?

Be thankful, the FTTP trial didn't come to us in Broughton Gate, there have been rumours it was, then it wasn't, then it was, then it might just be half the estate.
I've just moved over to Plusnet this week, will have to put up with my 1.6mbps speed until they decide if to put fttc, my line from Bradwell Abbey is only 10km after all... Cry

Re: FTTP in MK - what speeds are you getting?

Hi Guys
I am new to the fibre trial - just over two weeks and interested to hear your experiences. I am in Walnut tree and have been trying to ask Plusnet what performance they would expect me to be getting - this is the message that I sent

Your Response
2:51pm, Friday 2 Dec 2011
Hi
You refer to super speeds - that is why I would like to talk to some one - whilst I am getting better speeds than ordinary broadband I am finding that the speeds are not consistent. They seem to be continuously variable and particularly slow on an evening when I have experienced speeds as low as 9ookbps, but usually around 2-3mg - I wanted to ask if this was normal. I am not getting most of the time anything near the LAn max . The line profile according to BT is 106mg The most I have ever had and that was once is 80mg. the rest of the time it is variable between 30 and say 50. - there is not any steady or consistent performance. It can also change over the space of one minute - I have done tests twice within a minute and got significantly variable results, and also between testers.
Hence I would like to talk to some one who has experience of fibre line performance and what has been happening on the trial todate to see if my experience is normal. Thanks

Has anyone one else had similar experinces of constantly variable sppeds - most of the time one does not notice as it is so much faster than the ordinary copper service . I have not done anything to my router etc my system is as it was installed by the BT Engineer.
Any feedback would be helpful as PN told me to report it to the faults team but clicking on the link just takes me to the tests and of course putting in a telephone number which is irrelevant as I am FFTP.

Re: FTTP in MK - what speeds are you getting?

Hi
Thanks to PN arranging for a BT engineer to call I now have a very consistent service to around 85+. Even on a wireless connection, since a firmware update on the router, I still get a reliable 80-85. Many thanks to PN.
Still get the odd hiccup, usually on an evening when the speed drops down but not usually less than 50, and it is then only for short period. On normal usage I would not notice the difference  - just happened to be testing the speed at the time. Testing a few minutes later shows that the speed has returned. Speed tests do vary on the server being used and the site suggested by the BT engineer does provide the opportunity for testing on a preferred server and testing on others, so that you can compare results and also consistency. : www.speedtest.net if anyone is interested.

Re: FTTP in MK - what speeds are you getting?

As per my other post, I was at 32mbit average and now at 76mbit after having swapped my Belkin box for the plusnet supplied Zyxel box,
I was using http://www.speedtester.bt.com/beta/speedtest-remote.jsp?remoteServer=uk_cdn rather than speedtest.net
Tested using wired ethernet, on a sunday at this time so probably a lot of internet usage going.
Broughton are of milton keynes.

Re: FTTP in MK - what speeds are you getting?

Hi stormshadow.
Plusnet sent me the zyxel router. It may be worth checking your firmware version as there is an upgrade from Zyxel latest version sent to me by Zyxel support was V1.00(BWH.2)C0. The link for it is    ftp://ftp.zyxel.co.uk/NBG4604/firmware/
