FTTP - Slow download speed

BT tell me my line supports 330 Mb download. I am currently on plusnet FTTP trial with unlimited fibre and speed of up to 76 Mb. Is 39 Mb really the best speed I can expect?!
39 Mb is the fastest I have achieved since activation ten days ago. My download speed is regularly lower than 20 Mb. Surely something is wrong?

Re: FTTP - Slow download speed

Can you run the BT Speed Tester http://speedtest.btwholesale.com and run the Further Diagnostics test? Please post the results.
Can you also post your current line speed from here https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed ?

Re: FTTP - Slow download speed

I don't think your account has been set correctly on our side, it's still showing as an ADSL service rather than Fibre. Leave it with me for now and I'll get someone to take a look.

Re: FTTP - Slow download speed

I've also been having FTTP slow issues since last night at 20:45. Yesterday I couldn't load the BT Wholesale test page at all.
This morning I get a download speed  of 23.17Mbps and upload of 17.13Mbps
and the Plusnet portal details are:
Estimated line speed:
There's no speed estimate currently held on your account.
Current line speed:
    77.8 Mb

I am on the 76MB Unlimited FTTP trial.

Re: FTTP - Slow download speed

@ georgelnx
Can you try disconnecting/reconnecting from your router to see if that helps? Should be no need to reboot the ONT.
Also, might be worth trying http://www.speedtest.net/ to run your speed test (if you have not tried this already). The BT checker can be a little strange with results at times...

Re: FTTP - Slow download speed

@AndyH
Rebooted the router twice last night.
Managed to get through to customer support today and a fault has been raised on the line. We tested connecting the PC to the openreach box and still slow speed.

When the fault was being logged by customer support, the system was insisting that I was an ADSL customer which the CS person found puzzling.

Re: FTTP - Slow download speed

So why is my plusnet profile showing me as being on the Benton exchange in the north east when i am on the newquay exchange in cornwall? And it is showing a telephone number I don't recognise. Still no change in speed. What is going on?!

Re: FTTP - Slow download speed

It looks very much like my line is still restricted to 40Mb!

Re: FTTP - Slow download speed

This happened to me too - wrong exchange and number, low throughput.
Must be a standard way in which the PlusNet profile systems (whether automated or human) can get their knickers in a twist with FTTP!
Might be something to do with a standard FTTC contract being applied against your account, since there is no standard PlusNet FTTP product (that's the point of the trial) - or that might be a red herring. Although I know what caused them, I never quite figured out whether the billing errors I had were related to the initial profile screwiness or not in terms of internal processes. Both fixed now, though.
Would be interesting to hear how you find ordinary browsing responsiveness once you're up and running properly.

Re: FTTP - Slow download speed

Thank you SuperZoom
I had already decided I better keep a close eye on my plusnet biiling bearing in mind my profile is showing incorrect information!
I will let you know how responsive I find browsing when plusnet sort things out.
