Engineer turned up at 08:30, all done and dusted by 10:30. I'm only 30m from the cab so was pretty straightforward. This was his first non BT installation and he was pretty impressed with the Netgear - said it should be much better than the BT hub
All his tests on the line show everything is up to speed (40m down & 10 m up)
So - all looks good so far - time for some speed tests
Wireless (g)
Date Download Speed Upload Speed
3/11/10 10:31 21129 kbps (2.64MB/s) 8034 kbps (1MB/s)
Wired
Date Download Speed Upload Speed
3/11/10 10:35 37359 kbps (4.67MB/s) 8049 kbps (1.01MB/s)
Just a little better than 5 down and 350k up!!!

Excellent! Welcome to club
Speeds are looking good and that's really good for wireless G, that can vary a lot and some people don't see much more than 12Mbps so 21129kbps is about as good as it will get.

Thanks Dave - I'm looking into getting wireless N sorted soon so that should improve the wireless speeds (hopefully).
The speeds I'm returning from my PS3 are about 50% lower at approx 9-10m down and between 0.5 & 4 up. I'm guessing this is down to the quality of the network kit in the PS3?

Interesting, not sure. I know the PS3 is wireless G so that will certainly be a factor but I don't know what the quality's like. Be interesting to see what other people see on the PS3 speedtest in comparison.

Got a wireless N adapter today - first tests show a significant improvement on wireless G
28m down and 8 up, so thats about 7 meg better down than G (up is about the same). Also test the PS3 on a wired connection - only got 21 down and 6 up so perhaps the slow speeds are down to the line test on the PS3 rather than the line itself....
listen to me - only 3 days on FTTC I'm calling 21mb download speeds slow!!

Yeah even at 21Mbps it'd be faster than 90 odd percent of the country
N does make a big difference though we've seen so good to see the improvement, I wonder if anyone else sees the same with a PS3.
