FTTC due today - notification of BT engineer arrival?

I understand that the BT engineer will come between 8am-6pm.  This is a long time to stay in and wait....
Do BT send any kind of notification before the engineer comes (e.g. text message? phone?).

Mine phoned when he got to the green cab to say he would be with in in 15-20 mins. I thought visits were booked for AM or PM rather than all day

According to your ticket the appointment is for between 8am-1pm today, so I'm not sure where those times come from.
