They'd fit a new NTE5 yeah so that isn't an issue. For the extension kit they will pin it to a skirting board or run it round doors, I've not been asked about going through existing holes but will ask, don't think it will be a problem but I'll double check.

Hi Dave, just to give an answer to this, the way my new NTE5 was installed was it was run upstairs from the exisiting location, through the ceiling (hole already there - he removed the old extension cable that ran through the hole originally) & under the floorboards (which I lifted for him) and installed it in the 'study/pc room' next to the computer. He then ran the signal back downstairs, presumably within the same cable to the old socket downstairs so it could still be used as the main phone socket.
This was his suggestion and as you can see by the speedtests I posted, is giving no problems afaik
