Re: BT adds 114 new exchanges to FTTC

[quote=link in post above]FTTC currently offers download speeds of up to 40Mbps and upstream speeds of 10Mbps but Openreach is planning to roughly double these speeds during 2012.
There is also the potential to increase these speeds still further in the future
I hadn't seen that previously  Cool

FTTC boost to 80Meg.....

Whats the news that BT will be doubling the speed of FTTC connections in Q4 of 2011 and 2012??  Cheesy
Is PlusNet going to be a part of this? Will it just happen or will it go to trial it first? Will it happen globally or just on specific cabs/exchanges/localtions?
.....An interesting development if true!

@ Oldjim, Thanks but the title needs ammending again to show up to 80Mbps as that apparently is the OpenReach plan...

Re: BT adds 114 new exchanges to FTTC and up to 80Mbps next year

Hi,
When Openreach make the change they will be changing the frequency/profile that FTTC currently uses. What this means is that anyone who currently has less than 40Mbps speeds will likely see a small speed increase as the new frequency has a better reach for the lower speeds as well as being able to offer faster.
However, the product will still have a maximum sync rate of 40Mbps. For the up to 80Mbps speed we would need to order that as a new product. We've not yet made any decisions over what to do with 80Mbps although we may choose to trial it once it's available and then charge an add-on fee for anyone that wants it (we'll be charged more for 80Mbps than we get charged for 40Mbps).

@Dave: Should PN decide to trial higher FTTC Speeds then can I be on the trial list, or can we start one? Cheesy

I suspect the increased speed will be trialled on certain exchanges first, just like FTTC was. It's unlikely to be on a request basis.

Re: BT adds 114 new exchanges to FTTC and up to 80Mbps next year

Please count me in to any higher speed trials too.
(I give lots of feedback).
From my current FTTC connection, I am currently only able to achive download speeds of around 20Mb.
It was 32-33Mb at first.
My distance form the FTTC cabinet is somewhere between 800m & 100m.
Paul.

I have the impression from Dave's post that unless you are already getting close to the current 40Mbps limit you won't see much improvement

No harm in people putting their name down here if you're interested in trialling the 80Mbps version, I don't know yet what we are going to do or when so can't promise anything at this stage.
