Are FTTP speeds close to maximum?

Hi everyone
Been up and running on FTTP for several months now, (on 80/20 unlimited) & while i'm not checking the speed everyday, it doesnt seem to have gone much above 50Mbps at all.
Is there DLM on FTTP or could it be something else not allowing the full 80 (or 76 or whatever its called)
my IP profile comes up as 78/20 or something close to that
Thanks

Re: Are FTTP speeds close to maximum?

Even though it's a 80/20 service, your max d/l speed will be around 70Mbps. U/l speed will be probably be slightly higher than 20Mbps.
I don't fully understand why the IP Profiles are set below the line speed (are they 96% of line speed?) and then there seems to be some kind of speed limit in place. I know there are overheads etc. but I'm pretty sure someone on FTTC living with 100m of their cabinet will have a better speed test result than someone on the 80/20 FTTP.
Are you using speedtest.net? What's the range of results you get?

I think you are talking about FTTC, not FTTP.
I get 65Mbps downloads (actual speed) on FTTC.

We have a similar debate on Superzoom's thread on the other forum...probably best we move things here

I don't especially mind if a moderator wants to move my thread  (for the 2nd time!  Smiley )
I posted in the general broadband forum because the way I saw it the issues weren't specifically about FTTP - rather, FTTP allows the real issues to be seen more clearly because it eliminates lots of pesky variables.
I still see it that way, but I don't want to annoy people either!
