Is there any differance between the Usenet service provided to Plus and Premier subscribers. Do you get more groups/binary groups on Premier.

Whats the Usenet service like on f9

In terms of access to content, there is no difference.... all customers get access to the same servers with the same uncensored newsgroups. (But extreme illegal groups like pedophile groups have been removed)

However there is a difference in speed, you will be heavily throttled down to a very slow speed on Broadband Plus, so if you want to download binaries (rather than just text) then this account type is not designed for you.... you need to get Broadband Premier which is only slightly traffic shaped... I always get close to full 2mb/s speed with the news server so I'd say the service at the moment is running very well, and there is not a huge number of missing articles like you find on some other ISP's badly maintained newsfeeds.

In order to improve the service (i.e. prevent missing articles because of congestion) I think they've set up the server to remove any groups that nobody has accessed in over 3 months..... if this happens to a group you are interested in then you just need to e-mail customer service and they'll add it back on within 24 hrs. (I think this also means that any new groups that are created won't be automatically added, so you'll need to request them to be added... this is no bad thing as most new groups being added are nonsense and not genuine)

The article retention of binary groups is not as long as on the dedicated specialist paid-for-servers out there, but they make up for it by the fact that there is no download limits from the f9 servers like there usually is with a specialist supplier.

p.s. you need to bear in mind that although you will be allowed to download as much as you like, if you regularly exceed around 100Gb per month for 2-3 months in a row then you will be deemed an unsustainable customer and they will warn you to cut back your usage, and if you ignore the warning they will restrict your speed until you get fed up and leave for another ISP. If you sign up for the 8mb Premier service at 39.99 per month then 200Gb/month is deemed the unsustainable threshold. (These guide limits include all your internet downloading, not just usenet).

But watch out, I always used to be throttled down to 30k/sec even BEFORE I went over the 15GB/month limit they impose on premier Usenet usage. Hopefully they will get this fixed in the changes next month though I wont know as I got fed up waiting and changed ISP instead.
