Microfilter causes a buzz?

Hello,
I have a technical question regarding the line & wiring/filters etc before I sign up (no point signing up if its not going to work yet).

I have my phone lines wired as follows:

BT line in to main socket.
Another main socket next to it with extension wired internally, also a short cable with std BT plug on the end.

This is to plug into a DSL filter which then plugs into the main BT in socket.

The extension cable goes under carpets etc to under the stairs where wires2,3,5 enter a terminal block & then splits out to 3 other rooms.
All cables have ferrite beads on the cores, the 4th core is connected also to pin#3 so it is not acting as an aerial.
(I did this as I had some buss on the line & its now quite as a church mouse).

However, when I plug my ADSL filter in, I get a buzz.
(I do not have ADSL turned on yet).

The filter has 3 inductors each on 2&5, then passes via a capacitor betwen them & through resistors to the phone out socket & cost a fiver.

Any suggestions?
Maybe it also needs an additional cap on the output?

As I have signed up now, I suggest that "I" rewire the house.

It buzzes when plugged in at the source, but not when plugged in at the phone extensions themselves.

Something's up with the wiring.

Now that you have signed up can you access the other parts of this forum?
If so then have a look at the tutorial on wiring and Filters in the "Tutorials and FAQ" section.

Or you can also get to it via the Usertools on the left.

The following link may also be useful on UK telephone wiring:

Microfilter causes a buzz?

It's far from pointless
There may be other people in the future with similar problems and the suggestions made here are still valid for them.
So the thread will be left. Smiley

Microfilter causes a buzz?

I had read the FAQ, it wasnt helpful for what I wanted to know.

But I seem to have my problem solved, the line buzzes if I put the filter at the input to split to all the phones, but not if I put at each phone socket.
So I got to get me wallet out.

As I have a delay before activation I suppose I can do that.

Funnily enough I cannot log in today?
username/pw not right? cannot find a "mail me another password" link either.
