re speed since FTTC installation.

Attn FTTC Team re speed since FTTC installation.
I had FTTC installed on Friday 25th February and while I am pleased with the overall speed increase I would have thought the speeds, especially through SPEEDTEST.NET would show as higher than those indicated below and also that the speed tests when taken should not be gradually reducing.
and up till approx 03/03/2011 using the
BT Speedtester I had average speeds
download around 7000kbps and upload around 8000kbps
on each occasion my IP Profile was set at  38717/10000kbps
+++++
Then presumably with the line having settled down
From 07/03/2011 to 10/03/2011 again using the
BT Speedtester I had speeds
between 27000kbps and 31000kbps download and around 8000kbps uploads
again the IP Profile was set at 38717/10000kbps
Speedtest.net 07/03/2011 2332hrs download 20.10 mb/s upload 6.82mb/s ping 28ms
Speedtest.net 10/03/2011 1009hrs download 20.86 mb/s upload 7.48mb/s ping 28ms
+++++
From 13/03/2011 to 15/03/2011 again using the BT Speedtester
between 23000kbps and 27000kbps download and around 8000kbps upload
The IP Profile this time was set at 37213/10000
Speedtest.net 10/03/2011 1106hrs download 14.50mb/s upload 6.09mb/s ping 44ms

+++++
On 15/03/2011-16/03/2011
Using BT Speedtester I had download speed
between 23000kbps and 24000kbps download and around 8000kbps upload
The IP Profile this time sas set at 37743/10000
Speedtest.net 15/03/2011 download 11.71mb/s upload 6.79mb/s ping 27ms
+++++
From 17/03/2011 to 20/03/2011
BT Speedtester I had speeds
between 25000kbps and 26000kbps download and around 8000kbps upload
The IP Profile this time was set at 35331/10000
Speedtest.net 20/03/2011 download 13.27mb/s upload 7.08mb/s ping 27ms

+++++
The question I have is using the BT Speedtester the IP Profile for download has reduced by approximately 3000kbps  when surely it should already have settled down and also the download speed I am getting using BT Speedtest has reduced from approximately 30000 to around 23000 a reduction of 7000kbps. The upload speed has stayed relatively constant around 8000 which is fine.
With that in mind the speed tests I have conducted  using SPEEDTEST.NET were showing around 20000kbps for well over a week and are now showing around 13000kbps,  and downloads occasionally around 7000kbps, which were a significant reduction in each case over the BT Speedtester.
I would have expected the SPEEDTEST.NET results to be fairly close to the BT Speetest results.
Regards
Derek

Re: re speed since FTTC installation.

Hi derek,
The problem with speedtest.net is that different servers can give you varied results. It all depends on what servers best for you, the distance from the best server and all the trafic you may encounter when running a test. Personally, my speedtest results always come back slightly better than the BT test but I have it on good authority that BT's test is far more accurate. Are you running any firewalls as I've noticed these can massivly effect test results. I've also heard that http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/ is the best place to do an instant check as it goes straight to PN's servers and wont be affected by traffic.
With regards to your profile drops, I'd speak to PN about that as it could be for any number of reasons.
Hope I've helped a little!

Re: re speed since FTTC installation.

Hi Mikeyriot,
Obviously another insomniac.
I only have standard firewall via Norton 360 and all my tests whether thru BT speedtester or Speedtest.net have been done with that running and as you can see  from my post on 20/03/11 at 23:07 I have had high and low speeds.
I have just done a test thru mybroadbandspeed.co.uk  which I have used before getting no higher than around 13000 and this time I got the following which is typically very low.
Today 17:09 6708 kbps (839kB/s) 4336 kbps (542kB/s)
I am speaking to someone from Plusnet,  tomrrow on another matter
BUT  HOPEFULLY SOMEONE FROM PN (FTTC TEAM WILL SEE THIS AND HAVE A LOOK.
cheers
Derek
