Just read this article http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/5013-openreach-prices-up-voice-services-over-fibre-to-the-premise... and wondered if this trial of Voice over fibre of was something PN was going to offer as it looks to be a live offering now from BT. I'm overly bothered about having my voice via the fibre rather than copper, more interested in the free period of rental ( I love free ) and if this would mean your line is effectively VOIP so can be tapped into anywhere ? Dave ? Anyone at PN have any details ? Thanks Si
No it's not VoIP. The present telephony system is only copper to the exchange. When it reach the exchange calls are multiplexed and go into fibre. What the proposed system does is move the fibre from the exchange to the home. The main disadvantage is another electrical device has to plugged in, so more power stations and when there's a prolonged power cut you will lose the phone.
