@Browni Mine has non of the aforementioned clutter on the front, so the extension is just more twisted pair.

@krusty the Clown,

More like g.farce the way it could be rolled out!

Re: Todays News from BT

@Browni you have now.
If you're already getting half of the fibre speeds when g fast enabled will you get half the speeds from the max speed?
Excellent!

Re: Todays News from BT

You need to be getting close to full FTTC speed i.e. 80/20 to get any benefit from G.Fast. So the cabinet based G.Fast roll out is only going to benefit houses within say 200-300 metres of the cab. It seems to be a quick fix so BT can offer speeds comparable to Virgin Media but only for a limited number of homes.

Re: Todays News from BT

Thanks for the picture @Manny7860, if you're only getting half of the available fibre speeds that would indicate you are a pretty far away from the cabinet and unlikely to benefit from G.fast.

It's still very early days for G.fast and as such there is very little data available.

Re: Todays News from BT

If the FTTC sync rate @ 79999k and must be within between 25m and 175m then it will benefit from it, BUT, if it was more than 175m away then you are out of luck with g.fast.

My GEA Test say my line estimate length in metres are 248m away from the FTTC, so, it a NO NO for my g.fast as it will slower than FTTC.

This is why g.fast is very poor rolled out in my view by Openreach as around 55-75% will not benefit from it because of the FTTC cab are further distance away.

One thing is why can't Openreach leave uncapped speed on all FTTC removed 80Meg capped so the line can go faster as possible from the FTTC cabinet to the property if g.fast is much lower than FTTC estimate range.

Re: Todays News from BT

Fairly certain my line length is > 250m and I sync at the full 80, with ~100mbps attainable. Realistic benefit from the current G.Fast implementation is probably ~300m.

Re: Todays News from BT

Yes that for speed estimated range for FTTC. But slightly less on g.fast because g.fast work best on very short distance from the FTTC cabinet with a stone throw in.

I think under g.fast with 248m away the speed estimated for g.fast are probably below 55Mb or less.

Re: Todays News from BT

My FTTC stats example with 248m away depend on SNR & attainable rate:

SNR: 18.0dB - 113000K

SNR: 15.0dB - 103000K

SNR: 12.0dB - 93000K

SNR: 9.0dB - 83000K

SNR: 6.0dB - 73000K

SNR: 3.0dB - 63000K

That's for non-target 3dB SNR by Openreach on FTTC

Worth a read - https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2017/08/openreach-shows-g-fast-broadband-speed-improvements-si...
Edit: I see you've already read it. FWIW, it mirrors what I've seen with the test lines we've provisioned.

Re: Todays News from BT

Thanks for this @bobpullen So it look like I probably getting around 200/30 with approx 250m for g.fast. Look like the product from BTwholesale 152Mb / 29Mb for g.fast are likely to be capped at 152/29. Other option for 314/49 will be no chance for me.

100m 500 Mbps 50 Mbps 11%
150m 300 Mbps 45 Mbps 20% 200m 250 Mbps 40 Mbps 31% 300m 150 Mbps 20 Mbps 52% 370m 100 Mbps 20 Mbps 64%

Re: Todays News from BT

I was surprise that Openreach wouldn't do a new profile 30a with vectoring for the FTTC especially those who live further distance away and maybe slightly better than g.fast that need to be much closer to the street fibre cabinet.

Profile for FTTC below:

Profile name	Bandwidth used (MHz) Maximum speed (Mbps)
8c 8.5 50
17a 17.664 100
30a 30.0 200
