New fibre to cabinet

BT are currently fitting fibre to the cabinet in our road. Do we usually have to wait for increased speeds when a "switch is thrown" in the exchange or will speeds increase as soon as our line is linked to the cabinet?
I believe the exchange is to be enabled for ADSL2 early in the new year, but I've already changed to a higher download allowance and greater speed to allow for more use of BBC iPlayer on my internet enabled TV.
Just curious!

Nothing will change with your existing ADSL connection when your cabinet is enabled for FTTC.
You will need to get a FTTC product if you want to take advantage of the greater speeds.  The BT line checker will tell you if / when your cabinet is done:

Re: New fibre to cabinet

Mine is supposedly due 04/11 for FTTC. Undecided Does the preparation work have any effect on existing phone/BB installations?
No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.
