Re: New connection

There is no such thing as a 10-day training period on FTTC. Unfortunately this fact does not seem to have got through to the majority of ISP support people!

Re: New connection

ok i have been on fiber a week now  Wink must say am impressed with Gaming its a lot better  Cheesy but ,,, speeds fluctuate  a lot  Huh i know a lot depends on which site you use , am on gateway pcl-ag08. with the netgear WNR1000v3
see speeds below , PS BT speedtester  gives some wild results but never goes above 53  Embarrassed  Btea tester always says 74 never changes  Huh whichever site i use the upload is constant its the download that changes a lot !

Re: New connection

You might find this little bit of software interesting (JD's Auto Speedtester) http://www.gmwsoftware.co.uk/ ; suggested by http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,103382.msg879051.html#msg879051

Re: New connection

Do you get sensible upload speeds with JD's Auto Speedtester? I've just tried it and it consistently reports my upload speed at less than 5Mbps (download and ping are fine) whereas I know it's 15+. I have this issue with some other speed testers, e.g. thinkbroadband.com's Java tester rarely reports above 5-6Mbps for upload speed.

Re: New connection

I'd have to be honest and say I've only used JD's on my ADSL connection at work. it is possible to change the upload test settings but you'd need to find a suitable (fast enough) FTP server (or just switch the upload testing off as upload speeds rarely seem to be an issue).  Smiley

Re: New connection

Thanks - I changed the upload FTP server to my web host and that still gave me 4.5Mbps, but then I increased the number of threads to 4 and got 17.5Mbps. Changing it to 5 (the maximum) gave me 19.0Mbps, which seems a little unlikely!

Re: New connection

Thanks Kevin, now I've learned something new (even if it can give optimistic results).
I do like the periodic testing to check if and how the speeds vary during the day.

Re: New connection

Well in the three hours I've been using it, testing every 10 minutes, my download speed has been 63.5Mbps every time apart from one 63.3 and one 63.4 and those could have been because I was doing something else at the time.
