Locations and aesthetics

Question for impending FTTP installation:
Given that to get to all my devices the Netgear wireless N router has to be in a specific position  and the point of cable entry to the house is in another room, say 7 meters as the crow flies (through a wall) - I have a choice of asking the Openreach guy to install the ONT at the point of entry (same room as the TV) and me stuggle to get 7 meters of ethernet cable under carpets and through the wall - or asking him to install the ONT in the position where the router will be - so just a short ethernet cable.
I guess that the best thing is to ask them to install the ONT near to the router location - but am I right?
My concern is both practicality and aesthetics - so cable size/colour and method of routing are all in play here.
Any input from you would help, Thanks
