Help switching from BT to Plusnet

Hi,

I'm currently with BT not out of choice but because it was the only available provider due to my FTTP connection. My contract is up at the end of April and they have advised that I will be charged £49.99 a month for their 76mb package which seems expensive compared to the £31.99 Plusnet package for the same speed.

I would like to move to Plusnet and have seen people have managed to do this through moving to an ADSL connection then joining the FTTP trial but I'm at a loss as to how I do this and what steps I need to take in what order.

Please could someone advise what steps I need to take to do this, it would be much appreciated.

Re: Help switching from BT to Plusnet

First of all you need to check if ADSL is available!

What does this show (obscure any personal info)

Re: Help switching from BT to Plusnet

Hi,

Thank you for the information and link I have checked my number and get the following error message.

There is no data available for this number. This could be either because it is not a BT line or it is a new BT number that has just been provided. Most new numbers will appear on the checker 24 hours after BT has installed the line.

The line has been active for over 18 months so I'm not sure what the issue is.

Re: Help switching from BT to Plusnet

Have you tried the address checker option?

I'm not 100% sure if dslchecker will advise of availability for the number if the phone is also provided over fibre

Re: Help switching from BT to Plusnet

I'm afraid it looks like you may be in an FTTP only area Sad

I'm sorry to say we wouldn't be able to provide a service for you to become an existing customer and therefore become eligible for the fibre trial.

Re: Help switching from BT to Plusnet

Thanks for your reply and how disappointing.

I think it's disgusting that I'm stuck with BT's extortionate rates as there's no competition or other options Sad

Do you know when Plusnet will rollout FTTP?

@lindy no need to stick with BT, have a look at this ISP Review article for some other options.

@lindy

Have a look at the following website. Under the menu heading Fibre Broadband there is a sub heading "Ultrafast Broadband"

Click on this and then another clicks will take you to a list of companies who provide a FTTP service. Don't know many of them but Zen Internet could be worth a look.
